Of course, this is a software fault, but it's probably being caused by a physical problem. If the unit has a procedure for a software reset, try that first. These kind of problems can be caused by any poor contact switch, relay, or ribbon connectors, or any part of the main board.
The unit, unless it has a software reset, will have to be serviced. I would contact Kenwood to see what options are available, cost, etc. They may offer a swap-out with a refurbished unit, or a similar offer.
