Question about Canon PIXMA iP5000 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

My Canon IP5000 will not print in color. I have installed a set of new Canon ink cartridges and verified tat the print head is okay by removing it and checking for blockages. Black print is okay but no color. When I do a nozzle check, the printer prints the black bars nd immediately ejects the paper. Any possible solutions to this issue?

Try your printer settings, look for a box titled "Grey scale printing", make sure that its unchecked.

I had this covered as well - the gray-scale box is not checked and the nozzle test should not be affected by this setting anyway.

Then the only other thought I have is that the colour nozzles are blocked. The printer head clean function only pumps more ink through is the hope it clears a blockage.

Some shops sell a proprietary head cleaner/unblocker, I've also seen them on ebay.

Thanks for the info - I stripped the print head and made sure that all ink paths were clear but this has not helped. Looks like the head may be damaged electronically.

New ink cartridge is not printing. The diagram shows that the machine recognizes that it is there, but no red ink is releasing.

Inkjet printers do not like being left unused.
The color print head may be blocked. Try several deep cleaning of the print head to see if it can clear the blocked print nozzles.
If none of this works then the print head needs to be replaced.
A new cartridge will not solve this problem.
NOTE the print head is not a cheap item, you may consider putting the money towards a new and better printer.

Color printing

I removed the ink tanks then I removed the print head very carefully.
I rinsed the print head with the cleaner that comes with my refill
bottles, let it dry and carefully reinserted the print head. I "cleaned"
the nozzles and ran nozzle check and it worked fine.

I no longer trust this iP5000 printer for photos so I have purchased a new
Canon iP6700D which is great. I will use both printers...only using
the new one for photos only.

The main thing I have learned from my Canon printers is not to clean
the print heads as often due to that "Absorber almost full" message!
I still like the Canon for the ink capacity and separate tanks.

Your site has been so helpful! Thank you!
