SOURCE: Dishwasher door won't open, latch seems broken

Hello, I read your comment. If the latch is broken, then I suggest first of all disconect the electricity from the dishwasher. You may want to try using a small screwdriver and insert it where the latch is to activate the opening mechanism. If it doesnt open, then there are two options, I suggest to call the technical service to replace the door with a new latch.

Hope I have been of help.

Regards Nevd ´ll fixya.

SOURCE: Where can I buy the cable repair kit for my Kitchenaid dishwasher

OK, pretty easy fix. Look at diagram 10 here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5164885

The link (#24) probably broke and the spring (#18) probably shot off and is lying somewhere behind the dishwasher. Just pull out the dishwasher (careful not to disconnect or crimp any of the hoses) and check to see if both springs (one on each side) can be located. Just replace the old links and re-hook the springs and all should be well.

You can order the link replacement (part #8194001) from kitchenaid at 1-800-422-1230.

SOURCE: Broken door spring on Kitchenaid dishwasher

you have to pull the unit totally out so you can access both sides of the machine you can order the parts from either marcone or allbrands applaince they mail the parts directly to you when you have the unit out you will be able to see its an easy fix of just replacing springs and cord if im remebering correctly theres only two 1/4 screws to loosen one on each side you will be replacing the glide rollers also in the kit they send you with the cord are the glide rollers

Broken door spring on kitchenaid dishwasher

Hello,

Please read our safety information before attempting any testing or repairs. Before repairing the door springs, unplug the dishwasher or shut off the power at the fuse box or breaker panel to avoid an electrical shock hazard.
The door opens and closes with the aid of springs. If the springs (or the cables that connect them on some dishwashers) break, the door will drop open hard. The door will also be heavier when closing. If the door drops open, it may also bend the door hinges out of shape resulting in a door that does not close properly and possibly leaks.

When replacing the springs or cables, all of them should be replaced at the same time.
To access the door springs and cables remove the lower panel located beneath the door. The panel is usually held in place with two screws either above or below the panel. It may be necessary to first open the door to the dishwasher to get to the screws over the panel, then close the door to remove the panel.
There are two common types of spring assemblies. One type connects the springs from a hook on the dishwasher cabinet of to a tang on the door hinge .

Yesterday opened the door to dishwasher, and heard a thud sound. Now the door weighs a ton. I believe a spring/bracket broke, but can find no evidence of it. The dishwasher is working...

Hello,

Either the door spring is broken or the linkage that ties the spring to the door hinge...the springs hook onto the leg/frame asm that supports the tub then the spring fit into that linkage and the liknage fits onto the door hinges.

This link is a parts breakdown for your model and item #6 is the spring and item #11 is the linkage..their is 2 of them (one on the left and one on the right) and its reccomended that both are replaced at the same time

Here is that link so are can get a good look of how and where they go http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Maytag-Parts/Dishwasher-Parts/Model-MDB4000AWA/3048/0130000/M0512217/00002?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=MDB4000AWA

The door support on our machine seems to have failed and it has to be manually lowered otherwise it crashes down - can this be repaired?

There is a spring at the bottom of each door connected to the door and the frame of the dishwasher.
Slide the dishwasher out to access the side where the spring is. One or both are probably broken.

Most likely the spring or springs that help the door up are broken. Usually, if you remove the lower front panel (usually 2 screws hold it on) you can access the springs. If they are broken, try your local appliance repair store for new ones. If they are that old, they may be rusted- be careful!

Detergent dispenser spring door is either missing the spring or broken. In any case it opens but is no longer spring loaded. I can't figure a way to remove the assembly unless I have to take off the front...

Door just pulls off, you will require a new door, spring & possibly a catch. Spring fits onto pin on door and other end onto pin on holder, then fold spring on its-self and re-instate onto runners/slide. Paul Winn Appliance Services. (Cumbria)
