I am having the same problem. So far no solution, only figured out that I can keep the wireless radio turned off, and then at least the thinkpad R51 can work with an ethernet cable...

I have now fixed the problem for real. There's a complete solution on leneovo's home page:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w...
But be carefull, you really have to read the instructions carefully, otherwise it seems as if you installed the new driver without actually doing so. Only when you get all the way to executing the "run" command and the subsequent restart, then you're there.

I install windows 7 on my IBM thinkpad r51... now I want install Windows XP .. but Xp could not be installed .... What I do.....? thanks in advance

Have you delete your partition and format it?. Or maybe the installer that you have is not working try to use other CD installer for XP and re-run the whole process, But be sure to delete the partiotion in which you are going to install the windows. If you have an old partition then you have your files intact on the partition, DO NOT include deleting that partition, just the system partition on your drive. Hope it helps thanks.

I am getting a blue scree error on my IBM Thinkpad R51 that says unmountable_Boot_Volume. It will not let me run on save mode...it brings me back to the blue scree error message. I have windows xp

Unmountable boot volume = The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.
To fix that do the following:
1.Put the CD first in the boot order and boot from the XP install disk.
2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.Select your partition - it should be C
4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.
6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

You can format-it and install-it again with the serial number from your backside of laptop. You should have one with Windows XP or something. Install from any windows cd and use your serial key. After that you have to activate your windows and make the updates.

You need to access a computer that is connected to the Internet, (try going to a friend or work mate or nternet cafe etc.)

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP audio driver for your model laptop,
www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-39956.html

Copy the downloaded files and install them on your computer.
