Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My hard drive died. I just installed a new one. I have back up discs that I made when I first bought my acer laptop. I want to boot from cd but I can't seem to figure out how. I know how to get into the bios but I don't know what to change it to. All I have for cd-rom is one that says USB CD and that's not working when I put it to the top of the list. Any ideas as to what I can do?

The backup disc's May not be bootable discs meaning that you cant start up with them. You should see if you can find recovery discs that came with the laptop, this should be able to get your OS back and running, then once your up run the back up disc's in windows and you should be able to restore the data.

Installed new hard drive p105 s6064 now cd drive wont work dont have recovery discs

Dell recovery will not work in a Toshiba Laptop. Just make sure the boot order is set to CD/DVD driver first that will automatically start the CD/DVD driver when disc is loaded.

My acer aspire 5920 is in chinese and i need to know how to change to english

Hi,
use your XP install disc (or Vista or whatever OS you use) to boot up your laptop and do a Repair Install. Usually you will get a prompt to "Boot from CD by pressing any key." during the power up of your laptop. If you dont get that option, reboot and go into BIOS and change your boot order ie have the CD drive as first boot option followed by your hard drive. Then try booting again with your XP disc in the cd drive.
You can change the language to English during a Repair installation but you may have to re-enter your serial number and activate again on-line again.
Cheers,
Steve

I bought a new hard drive for my acer 5100 and it

The different model of hard drive should not make a difference. As long as you are using the same type....IDE or SATA...you should be fine.

If you installed the new drive and now the computer keeps rebooting....you probably need to tell the computer to boot from the CD first and not the Hard Drive. When you first turn on the laptop, boot into BIOS by hitting the DELETE or F2 key....it is normally the Delete key.

This will boot into BIOS where you can find the BOOT OPTION menu and select the CD as the first boot device. This will allow the computer to boot from the Windows CD you should already have in your cd drive.

If this does not help.... I would take the new hard drive out and boot the computer without any drive installed. If you are still in a reboot loop, the problem is not with the hard drive and more than likely an issue with the RAM. To rule out the RAM, take one stick out and see if that makes a difference...repeat with the second stick....

Hope this helps

INstall the hard drive, if the hard drive came with a cd, put the cd in the drive and boot the laptop. When you see it say "boot from cd hit any key" do so and follow the prompts. This software will "initialize" the disc and install for the first time. Once the disc is "officially" installed take the hard drive disc out of the drive and replace it with Operating Disc. Reboot the machine and again look for the "Boot from CD Hit any Key" hit any key and let the system load windows. You only have to hit the key one time when it says "hit any key" even if during the windows install, the system may reboot but it still may need the disc in the drive, if you see the heading "boot from cd hit any key" dont hit any key any more....just let windows finish loading. When windows finally reboots, sometimes up to three times, then you can take the disc out of the drive or take it out if the operating system instructs you to. Good luck, ParrotHead PC Repair

Hi there
Put the cd in the drive, restart the PC and hit F2 while it starts, go to the boot options and choose the cd drive as first boot device, hit F10, save and exit, the pc will restart and then will boot from the cd, it may ask you to press any key to boot from cd, you will then see setup screen and the new operating system will start to install.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!
