Question about NAD S300 Amplifier

1 Answer

I am looking to exchange the front on my Nad S300 due to a scratch. I have the new front, but I cannot removed the old front due to the volume knob. I have removed the little screw in the volume knob but it does not help. Maybe I need a different approach. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

SOURCE: NAD S300 Amplifer humming

You have either got a bad earth connection, or possibily there's a capacitor failed.
If you can't find a dodgy conection, I would replace the large Electrolytic Capacitors in the power section, they are used to take out 50hz hum in the mains electric, when they go you get that hum coming into your system.

Nad t753 volume control knob doesnt work

I'm going to assume that you mean it jumps around, volume up/down by itself? If so, you have a bad rotary encoder. If you are interested in having your NAD repaired, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. You may contact me there. Thank you.

before you replace it and remove the old knob , look at how the wires are connected and snip the so you have a little color showing. Now , with the new knob you just attach the wires back to the location they were in on the old knob.

Sounds exactly like a failing volume potentiometer. If you can access it try some tuner cleaner or just exercise the heck out of it with no power applied.

While you're at it, treat every knob, switch and button for the oxidation that comes with age or little use.

Have someone who has experience working with circuit boards take it apart and look at it. They'll probably be able to tell you what parts can be replaced. If it's anything as simple as capacitors and resistors, then you can find the exact parts you need at AllElectronics.com

When they said it was a multilayer structure, that means either there are multiple circuit boards, or it's all surface-mount soldering on both sides of one board. To be on the safe side, assume it's surface mount. It's much more difficult to work on.

Hope that helps!

NAD 3150 doesn't play any sound

I, too, have the 3150 and have experienced problems with it. With me the INPUT knob is touchy and needs micro turns sometimes to get both channels to come through. Also, it sounds like the pots are dirty as I get a scratchy sound while adjusting the knob. I have been told that these units are great middle of the road audiophile units. Actually, for the price of a used unit you can't do better. I just had an NAD 2400 THX amp delivered today and am using the 3150 as a preamp. My girlfriend is not feeling well and sleeping in the bedroom, though, and I can't listen to it :( The few minutes I heard of Steely Dan's Cousin Dupree made me bout **** myself (until I got the dirty looks). Sorry I wasn't more help! Goooooo NAD!
