My sister in-law accidentally turned on the Microwave (with nothing in it) thinking she was using the timer until it overheated and shut off. No power at all. I replaced TCO's that were open. Everything works fine now, all functions work properly except the Vent fan will not shut off. How can I resolve this problem. Thanks

Kent, most microwaves will turn on the light when you open the door. As for the fan coming on, does it do that all of the time or only after you have used it for a period of time? If it does only after you have used it, you might want to check the back and the underneath of your microwave to see where the fan draws air into the unit and clean any lint built up on the vent holes. Hope this helps!
You probably have a bad fan thermostat. This thermostat is supposed to turn on the vent fan if the microwave oven gets too hot (caused by cooking too much or having too many burners turned on on the range beneath the microwave oven). It should shut off in about 15 minutes after your turn off the range burners. But if it comes on for no reason, or won't turn off, then You probably have a bad fan thermostat.
I had the same problem with the fan not wanting to shut off after the repair. Once I set the clock though I was able to push the button to shut the fan off. So try setting your clock first and see if that helps.
Interesting post, because I have the same problem! I have spent the better part of today researching and taking our microwave apart (partially) to inspect the top portion re: outside vent. Everytime the microwave is on, the "active vent door" (manufacturer's term, not mine!) opens. Apparently this is normal. But it also opens when you turn on the vent fan, when cooking on the stovetop. I don't like this feature, because I think it 'overrides' the outside venting system. I double checked our outside vent to ensure that when this oven was installed, the person did in fact allow the flap to be open when the fan is on (he did). So I think what 'our' problem is, is that the microwave active vent sort of interferes with the outside vent, thus more of the cooking smell being blown into the house instead of the outdoors. I was thinking of simply disconnecting the gizmo that make the active vent door open each time you use the oven and/or vent fan option however I don't think that's a good idea as apparently the main purpose of the active vent door is to keep the electronics of the microwave oven from overheating. The more I read about this version of microwave, the less impressed I am with it. Lots of electronic issues with it. I am not fussy either with having the microwave over the cooktop. Sorry I don't have a solution for your problem but I do feel your pain!!!
Your microwave turning on by itself is a "self preservation feature" of the GE Profile Advantium and maybe some other models. Read the manual, When your over the range oven gets warm enough, for whatever reason the venting fan comes on until a satisfactory oven temperature is reached. You are not permitted to shut the vent fan off. Also it seems a temperature near room temp must be achieved before it shuts the fan motor off, it is very annoying. We had to return our Advantium because of fan noise. I configured the ovens vent fan to the recirculate direction because we do not have a vent duct that exits the house over our range. When the vent fan acting as the ovens cooling fan automatically turned on we would have to leave the house to hear each other talk. Too bad we really liked the oven other than that major problem. jamison665 was you using the microwave when this happened? Reason I ask is that all microwaves over the range have a temp sensor so if you are using the cooktop and don't have the vent fan on the OTR running, it will turn on the fan if it gets to hot. Once this cools off, the fan will quit running. When this happens, it is only the fan that is running. I think this may be it since the turntable will rotate when the mircowave cooking section is in use.
