If that is not what you are looking for - then you can try to run the Windows Update and see if Microsoft can update the driver for you. To run Windows Update, open Internet Explorer and check under the Tools menu for Windows Update.

If you can't find a CD, you can log on to lenovo website, look for your model, and get the software driver that you are looking for. download it on a USB stick, or burn it in a CD using other computer, then install it on your laptop. that's it.

Please repeat to download the new driver from the IBM site for T42 and reinstall it once again.
If this wont help you either, then there is a possibility that the audio output is faulty.
But make sure that the audio drivers and the media players are in line.

FN pg up pg up. It that is not it try settings> control panel> sounds and multimedia> audio> volume Make sure the volume control and wave sliders are a least past the halfway point. Also check that the mute box is empty. If that dose not work then in that same window try > Advanced and make sure those settings are correct.

Have you check the device manager? (click "Run" on the "Start Menu" or press "Win+R" key on keyboard then type "devmgmt.msc" <--without quote)
If your multimedia card displayed with exclamation mark on it and then when you install the driver it says "No device Found" or The driver couldn't installed.
I thought that your problem is HDAudio patch - KB888111 - from microsoft.
(but they don't provide the download link)
You could goggling for the patch or if you provide me your email I could send it for you.
