Klystrons were used for industrial microwave processing for precooking of chicken parts - about 3000 lbs/hour. But klystrons are very expensive and can't compete with $ 8 - 10 magnetrons for microwave ovens

Why doesnt my microwave heat up emerson 1000watt

If it is not heating properly, then the klystron is probably bad. The klystron creates the energy to cook the food.

Microwave went dead as soon as I started heating. Replaced its fuse:58001220

The klystron or the hi voltage transformer are faulty. The klystron is the part that generates the microwaves. The transformer supplies the voltage to operate the klystron.

Check the hi voltage fuse. It's located near the klystron tube.

Microwave taking much longer to heat food

The microwaves are produced by what is known as a KLYSTRON TUBE. Like anything, early failure is possible. There is also the possibility that the transformer or electronic circuit providing the correct voltage to the KLYSTRON has failed, either from over-use, manufacturing defect, or leakage from the KLYSTRON enclosure, which creates heat.
With microwaves being as CHEAP as they are, replacement should not be an issue.

Microwave does not heat but light goes on and the table turns

The klystron tube that provides radio (micro) waves to the enclosure is not working. Problem could be (and most likely is) the high voltage power supply that feeds the klystron tube. Alternately, it is the tube itself. In this society (throw away), it may be less costly to just find another microwave on sale or on Craig's list and replace yours.

The klyston is very expensive and the power supply replacement is labor intensive.... sorry.

Microwave seems to operate normally but does not heat food

Test it. Put a bowl of water in the microwave and place a small (1 or 2 sq inches) piece of aluminum fold next to it. Power the microwave on for 2 or 3 seconds. If the foil sparks, the oven is creating microwaves and should be functioning correctly. If nothing happens to the foil, then you have no microwaves being generated by the klystron tube.

You can spend 80 to 150 dollars to have the oven checked and repaired or you can find another on Craig's List in your community for less than 100 dollars. Alternately, you can replace with a new one for whatever you are able to spend (from 95 to 600 dollars).

Open the cover and look for a fuse. If it's not blown then the power tube (klystron?) is probably fried.
