I've noticed that the fan has been on more often than usual. Is there any relation?

  • appliance51 Jun 18, 2008

274!!!! guess I'm gonna take out my voltmeter? any pointers what I should be looking for? How to diagnose problem?

If I disconnect and remove the display panel does that affect the thermostat?

  • appliance51 Jun 19, 2008

i was thinking about just putting a thermomrter in both compartments but I am concerned that there is a a bigger underlying problem.

I would think its LED isn't LCD overkill for a fridge disply?

BTW I found the replacement part just the display WR55X10522 at 90$

  • appliance51 Jun 23, 2008

Well my temperature panel went on for about 2 minutes and went off again. Complained to GE about the problem, lets see where this gets me.

About the supply module, where can I find that?

  • appliance51 Jun 25, 2008

new development...clicking noise from back of fridge where the control board is located and the compressor seems to want to start but then stalls continously. called ge service.

  • appliance51 Jun 27, 2008

Well 300$ later and my fridge is working again. It was the main control board that went sour. Repairman replaced it in 5 minutes. An extremely easy procedure that any DIY can do and save yourself the 90$ service charge.

  • Anonymous Aug 12, 2008

the led display is off. Any suggesstions!

  • Anonymous Nov 03, 2008

Temp display lights all went out. Unplugged and plugged back in so far they are back"on"....unit is 8 months old!

  • swlease Mar 12, 2009

LED display was blank. Unplugging for 30 seconds and plugging it back in solved the problem monumentally. We where able to press the control keys a few times until it went blank again. We are still confused.

Hi there!

If it is still under warranty, phone the supplier or manufacturer about this. You should get it repaired free.

If not, There is power to the controller - as it's beeping. It could just be that the backlight is disconnected or faulty, in which case a new display panel is needed as a replacement.

These should be available from the manufacturer directly.

If everything else is working normally, it's just a faulty display.
If you are competent at repairing small circuits, test the inputs of the backlight first. If you are not, then replace the item.

If this resolves the problem, please spare a moment to rate as fixya! Thanks.

Probably the fact you've set it to cooler by pressing the buttons - but you can't see that because the backlight's not there.

Still sounds like the display panel.

I can only find reference for the whole display unit - Part No.

WR17X11976. And thats $274. I would suggest you keep looking for just the display only.

  • Richard Perkins
    Richard Perkins Jun 18, 2008

    Yes it will.

Freezers stay within limits for 12 hours, and fridges around 4, so you're working to a time limit.

Sorry - you said LED? Are you sure it is the old LED segment display - or LCD with a backlight?

If it's LED it could be the driver chip, or just the power supply to it.

If it's going to cost$$$$ it may be a cost effective option to buy some "weatherstation" displays - around $10 - and stick the probes in fridge and freezer. Basically giving yourself a new display altogether. If it's only the display that's broken, seems a cost effective solution to me.

  • Richard Perkins
    Richard Perkins Jun 19, 2008

That's more like it - well done. I didn't check all the suppliers.

If you're able to check the supply to the module before ordering it, it should give more certainty that this is actually the problem.

    Thank you for using Fixya!

  • Richard Perkins
    Richard Perkins Jun 23, 2008

    Hi again,

The supply module will be any circuit boards the display is sitting on.

It is sounding more like a faulty connection - as it did come on again. If it was permanently out - it would be the driver chip or more serious.

Have a close inspection of all solder joints, and test the power supply to the board is giving a constant supply.

    ***RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK.***

As the equipment has to be on for this check. Only attempt if you are competent at electronic repairs.

  • Richard Perkins
    Richard Perkins Jun 25, 2008

    Hi,

Maybe it is the power supply to the board as I stated earlier.

So hard to pinpoint things from this end without getting a meter on it myself - the limitations of Fixya!

I hope GE service traces the fault. Please drop a note to say what the fault was so that others can benefit in the future.

    Thank you.

Why dose it keep beeping ?

Fridge keeps beeping or buzzing: The following is for Frigidaire models but others can be addressed similarly.

Several Frigidaire refrigerator models have an electronic control panel on the freezer door the owner can use to adjust the internal temperature, dispense ice and water and receive notification about issues such as the need to replace a water filter. The refrigerators also emit a beep for various actions and as an occasional alarm. Determining what causes the beeps necessitates some troubleshooting.
Temperature Controls ·A Frigidaire refrigerator's display panel blinks when the control panel is touched to set temperature controls. After pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, press the arrow buttons within five seconds to increase or decrease the desired temperature. If you do not press the arrow buttons within five seconds after pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, the refrigerator beeps to indicate the current setting will stay in place.

Door Open ·When you leave the refrigerator or freezer door open, the refrigerator beeps. Also, the "Door Ajar" indicator illuminates on the appliance's display panel. Shutting the door and pressing "Alarm Reset" stops the beeping and turns off the "Door Ajar" indicator light.
·The Frigidaire refrigerator has a control lock feature that prevents use of its control panel or dispensers when the unit is locked. When the control lock is active, a beep sounds when a keypad or dispenser is pressed. Release the control lock by pressing the "Control Lock" icon for three seconds. A beep will sound, and the icon's light will go out.
Power Reset ·A power reset is occasionally necessary if the Frigidaire refrigerator's control panel does not work normally or a reset function on the keypad does not work. A power reset involves disconnecting power to the refrigerator by unplugging its power cord from the electrical outlet, waiting 30 seconds and plugging the power cord back into the electrical outlet. When the control panel resets, a beep sounds. If the refrigerator beeps even after a power reset and the beeps' source is not known, contact Frigidaire.

My fridge keeps beeping even though the door is shut. The fridge temperature indicator keeps going up and then down. Can you please tell me what's wrong?

Is the beeping a door or temp alarm? You can press power cool and power freeze buttons at the same time and you should get a single LED indication and then after 30 seconds the
display should return to normal. NOTE the position of that single LED should you see it.
1) Self-Diagnostics in the initial Power ON
1-1)The control board performs a self diagnostics test within 1 second and check out the temperature sensors abilities.
1-2) If a sensor failure occurs, a corresponding LED segment will blink with a beep.
1-3) When a LED segment blinks, only the cancellation function (Press Power Freeze and Power Cool buttons
simultaneously for 8 seconds) is acceptable.
1-4) After a replacement of bad sensor or a cancellation of this function, this self diagnostics will end.
2) Self-Diagnostics in the normal operation
2-1) To select this function, press Power Freeze and Power Cool buttons simultaneously for 8 seconds with an audible tone.
2-2) In the self diagnostic mode, only corresponding LED segments will be illuminated (see the check list on the next page) <NOT in this post Interpreting LED position = these errors below. You will need to pass on / reply with exact position of the LED that you see
1 ICE MAKER SENSOR
2 REFRIGERATOR SENSOR
3 REFRIGERATOR DEFROST SENSOR
4 REFRIGERATOR FAN ERROR
5 ICE MAKER function error
6 CoolSelect ZoneTM SENSOR
7 REFRIGERATOR DEFROST ERROR
8 EXIT-SENSOR
9 FREEZER SENSOR
10 FREEZER DEFROST ERROR
11 FREEZER FAN ERROR
12 CONDENSER FAN ERROR
13 FREEZER DEFROST ERROR
2-3) After a 30 second illumination of error signal, the system will return to the normal operation.
I suspect a thermistor problem.
The unit will self diagnose if you unplug it for 15 to 20 minutes and then plug it back in. ANY errors will be displayed by a single LED (digit) indication during the first 14 seconds after you plug in the unit.

You must wait that 15 - 20 minutes of unplugged time to prevent the compressor overload from tripping due to high coolant pressures. System must stabilize first to prevent damage to your unit.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
