Question about Panasonic PanaFax UF-8000 Laser Fax

Sending an International Fax

Hello,

We have tried several times to send a fax to our parent company in Japan, and we keep getting "Busy" on our fax confirmation print out. I've called the fax number from my desk and it rings and then their fax machine picks up, but for some reason our fax machine is unable to connect/talk to their fax machine. Is there a setting or a function we need to change? I've looked at all of the Fax Parameters and they don't seem to be the cause. Is there a setting/parameter which limits the number of digits the fax machine will dial (the Japanese fax # is 15 digits long, and US fax #'s are only 10)? Please help! Our owner is getting frustrated!

Thank you!
Kristen

Ok... but what setting is it? Where & how do I find it and change it to allow the fax machine to send international faxes to Japan?

  • Knorthcott Jun 19, 2008

We don't beleive it's due to Network Issues or due to issued on the receiving fax machine. They receive multiple faxes each day for other companies in the US with out a problem, and when we send it, normally the Japanese office is closed so there would be minimal traffic. We've tried to send it for our other 2 UF-8000 fax machines (we have 3 in total) and the faxes are never successfully sent. We've had our phone system look a the fax lines and they don't have any filters installed on those phone numbers either.

Also when we do a off hook dial so that we can here the fax machine dial the Japanese fax number, it dials it, it doesn't even ring it automatically gives a busy signal. But when we dial the fax number from our desk, it will ring 3 times and then the fax machine will pick up. We've called the fax machine seconds after the fax machine got a busy signal and it rings and the fax machine picks up.

If your sure that your fax machine is working then the problem would be with the one you are sending a fax with or if not there might be some network problems.

I have some questions for you.. Is this problem there since you installed the machine? If yes then it probably means a bad line... If you can try connecting it to another line or connect a different machine at the same slot.. Hope this helps..Let me know how it went so that i can provide further assistance...

Hi,

You can do a factory reset of this and then give it a try:

  1. "Function" key + "7" +"monitor" key 4 times +"* " to enter service mode by pressing key one by one.
  2. Select "Ram Initialize" by using "up arrow" and "¯ " and "set" key.
  3. Select "Flash memory clear"
Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution.

Goodluck..

Just use the correct no to enter while you enter
for eg if your fax no is 23245678 then first add 00 and then country code for eg 97 then add the no to which you want to send the fax..so it will as 009723245678.

I hope this works .

Thanks for using fixya.

If your phone number was 08-9999-9999

Then they would need fax to 0011-81-8-9999-9999

The machine should be able to cope with this. It may be due to the delay, and it presumes there is no response.

Try using unkook & dial from the fax machine itself if it allows this. Then send manually.

Failing that Panasonic customer support may know something we don't.

I think may be the problem might be on the reciever side because you have mention that when you call from your desk it pick up which means that from your side its working. try after sometimes may be the problem is due to network traffic. it may also due to your fax machine problem. try to send it from another fax machine.

    try this steps

FAX CED Detect Enable: YES (Declare the call a fax call when it detects the CED - the 2100Hz high pitched long tone after CNG)
FAX CNG Detect Enable: YES (Declare the call a fax call when it detects the CNG signal - the initial 1100Hz short beeping tone that is repeated every second, like a polling signal)
FAX Passthru Codec: G711a (I've used G.711a instead of G.711u because G.711a has a slightly more dynamic audio range* See notes below)
    FAX Codec Symmetric: YES
    FAX Passthru Method: Re-INVITE
    FAX Process NSE: YES
FAX Disable ECAN: YES (Enables Echo Cancel if FAX call is detected - dependant on above two CED & CNG detect settings)
FAX Enable T38: NO (Had to take my VSP's T.38 out of service)
    FAX T38 Redundancy: 0
FAX Tone Detect Mode: Caller or Callee

Re: the G711a Vs G711u - G711u is a US/Japan standard for use over T1 trunks, G711a is a "rest of the world" standard for use over E1 trunks. Being that Australia is not the US or Japan, you find that E1s are used in circuit switched networks, as such the G711a codec is better compatible fit, as carriers do use G711a instead of G711u.

Here are my results using T.38 and then not using T.38:
Tests to Telstra TestFax Plus yielded these results (before / after)

    Overall performance: POOR / EXCELLENT
    Transmission Level: POOR / EXCELLENT
Training Signal Quality: EXCELLENT / EXCELLENT
    Transmission Speed: FAIR / EXCELLENT
Facsimile Image Transmission: POOR / EXCELLENT

Recommendation: "Your facsimile service REQUIRES ATTENTION - Your facsimile transmission level is 7.3dB TOO HIGH" / "Your facsimile service is READY FOR USE"

    Image Resolution: FINE / FINE
    Image, percentage error free: 0.00% / 99.91%
    Short Image lines: 14 / 0
    Unknown G3 code lines: 52 / 0
    Image lines exceeding 32K pels: 226 / 0
    Long image lines: 10 / 0

Transsmission level: -10.7dBm TOO LOUD / -17.7dBm EXCELLENT
    Line Noise Level - 54.8dBm EXCELLENT / -54.6dBm EXCELLENT
Error Rate: 0 bits per 100,000 EXCELLENT / 0 bits per 100,000 EXCELLENT
    Sending speed: 7200 bits.sec V.29 / 14400bits.sec V.17

The person you are sending to has a busy phone line.

Call your cell phone from the fax machine to test.

Receiving error

Ok...so I fixed my own problem. I had printed out a system data sheet on my fax machine and found out that the "error" was in under sending confirn, so I went into my menu to the sending confirm section and turned it off. Then my boss tried sending the fax and it came through like nothing was ever wrong...I think the other day when my Iguana got in my office, he must have done something, as I found him perched on my fax machine....hmmmm. Thanks for the follow-up email.

Just a suggestion. This effect can happen if you have plugged the line cord into the tel jack instead of line jack.

This could be a cable fault. Get BT to do a line test for you (this is free). If that is OK, change the telephone cable. Perhaps this is on an extention cable? Remove it.
