Force a restart by disconnect the power, wait 20 seconds and then replug it back in. Most of these units do not have an on-off switch. Sometimes when the power goes out the wireless devices will not restart correctly.

Another item to look for is someone else in your neighborhood who just bought a new wireless router, probably the same kind as yours and is broadcasting its availability. Your computer sees it as the "preferred" device and will try to connect. There may not be enough "bars" for it or they may have secured theirs but did not change the name advertised. You can fix this by changing your router's name and securing it and then changing the connection at your laptop. This will insure that it always picks yours. You may also want to look at the "preferred" connections list and remove any unwanted available connections.

Are your other computer hard-wired to the router?

If yes then the problem may still be in the router wireless portion.

Another issue may be in your laptop. Many have a light which is lit that shows that the wireless connection is enabled. On this laptop that I'm using if you hold the blue "Fn" key and push the F2 function key then it turns off the wireless connection.

Lenovo G550 running Windows 7 won't connect to internet. "Default gateway is not available" message displays. I have 4 Vista computers using wireless connections all functioning fine, but this...

Hello
Wow youve done almost everything here. How about the firewall? is it blocking any connections?

Next,Go to control panel, network and sharing center.Look and see if the pc or laptop in question is on the same network, meaning home or public.

Set all your machines to the same network.Either home or public.I do know this has been a win 7 problem.

I can not figure out how to get the computer to make a wireless connection.

Add the Home SSID to the Preferred Network List After you set the SSID on your home gateway, you may need to add it to your preferred network list if Windows XP Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled. (Although automatic configuration is nice to have, your IT department may have disabled it on your laptop in order to meet their needs. If they have, you'll need to use the tool provided by your laptop or wireless manufacturer to manually configure wireless settings.) To manually add your home wireless network to the list of preferred networks when Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled, follow these steps:
• In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
• Right-click the Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
• On the Wireless Networks tab, shown in Figure 3, click Add.

Figure 3
• In the Wireless network properties dialog box, shown in Figure 4, enter the SSID you configured for your wireless gateway (ExampleHome_g in this example.)

Figure 4
Note: Figure 4 assumes you've added the Windows WPA Client Update. If you haven't downloaded and installed it, you probably should. For more on the WPA Client Update, see Overview of the WPA Wireless Security Update in Window XP.
• Fill in the rest of the fields, including the necessary authentication and encryption information based on the configuration of your wireless gateway.
• Click OK and your home network will be added to the list of preferred networks.
Now, whenever you're at home, your work laptop should automatically see your home wireless network and connect to it.

Notebook does not connect to LAN or wireless

The dlinks have a tendency to reset to factory settings when you do a firmware upgrade. Connect to the router using a wired connection or using another computer, confirm the settings are what you want, not the defaults. NEVER use the default wireless name (in this case: dlink), always change it to something nobody around you is using!

My wireless laptop gateway won't connect to my router again after going out of town using it at hotel and now it wont connect at home. it will connect on my job with no problem

Hi!

It is possible that the wifi networking where you connect in the Hotel use the same name of you home wifi network!

Try deleting your wifi profiles and reconnect again.

If you don't know how to delete the wifi profiles let me know and I tell you.

Thanks!

Wireless

1) A working WiFi adapter, USB or PCMCIA.
2) A Wireless signal to connect to.

Windows already has built in WiFi software.
