Start up problem

My son turned my computer off with the on/off button instead of shutting down properly, now when i turn it on, it goes to the black page that gives the options of starting back up on a previous setting or start up windows normally, but when i choose one of these, it just goes back to the same page telling me it was shut down improperly and to choose one of those items....i don't know if i need to download new drivers or what....

Spud,
unfortunately, the bios window doesn't come up...it's just the window that gives options to start normally, start at previous working settings, or start in safe mode....none of these work, it just keeps going back to this screen...it tries to boot when i choose one of these options, but the pixels get scrambled and it goes back to this option window very quickly...i hope i am making sense...

Start up the computer when the computer boots up go into settings in the Bios (black screen) change the boot settings to boot from cd/DVD put windows disk in reboot you will be asked to boot from CD push Enter.

This will load up windows after while you will come to a screen Enter for Install or R for repair push R for repair this will take you to the DOS prompt it will check keyboard don't touch anything.
next it will ask you repair 1. windows put a 1 in push enter. Then will ask you for admin password just push enter the repair should start. when finshed take disc out reboot. Hope this makes sense? if that fails let me know there is another solution

Ok boot up the computer as it boots you need to try either the F1 key, the ESC it will depend on your motherboard this will get you into the Bios change the boot order to CD / DVD first then usually F10 to make changes place the Windows CD in the drive reboot push enter when "DO you Want to BOOT FROM CD" or words to that affect. Now as it goes through you will want to select R for repair not install. If this fails you can down load on the NET boot disks .

Option1:- choose the option called safe mode. the first option. just log in and stay for a while in there and restart your computer.

When i start my gateway netbook lt20 a black screen pops up asking to start windows normally or 3 other options.. why?does this happen?

Usually because you didn't shut windows down properly before turning your computer off or completely draining your battery. If that is the case then simply select start windows normally and as long as you follow the correct shut down procedure it shouldn't happen again. If it does there may be a problem with your windows instalation.

You need to start up in safe mode you do this by pressing F8 while it is booting up you will then see a screen that says start normal or safe mode pick safe mode if it boots up and it will take a little while then shut down the computer by selecting shut down and then restart this will most likley solve your problem

This can happen when there is two problems.. One the computer might have been affected by virus.. Or the other thing might be the OS corrupted.. Try to get into safe mode and check if the system is working fine.. If it works well there try to do a system restore to a place wr it was working well.. If in safe mode also it doesnt work well then go ahead and reinstall the OS...

Dell Inspiron 1545. When booting to vista the screen goes black. When booting to safe mode the screen works normally.

Please reinstall the Video Driver and check if the same issue persists. If the issue started within last 90 days, you can try the System Restore

Do not start up, black screen

Hello,

I'll asume something for this one it might help. Make sure your laptop is completely turned off [No fans turn, screen black, no hard drive light]. When you then press the power button, immediately keep pressing the F8 button on your keyboard. It should then actually display two options after a while :

*Delete restore/resume point and start windows
*Resume restore/resume point

Select 'Delete restore point' and the unit should boot up fine again.

I had a unit that was basically turbo-booting into windows, but the restore point was corrupt and it always seemed it had a 'blank screen' problem.

You can also try to access the BIOS by pressing F2 as soon as the unit starts up to see if you can actually access the BIOS.

If that all doesn't help I suggest reseating RAM.

Computer boots up and then goes to a black screen

Hi ,

Please follow these trobleshooting steps......

Turn the computer off and then disconnect any external devices connected and then when you turn the computer on or as son as you press the power button to turn the computer on start tapping the F8 key repeatedly until you get a black screen that says advance boot menu option .Then used the arrow keys on the keyboard and then hit enter, select the operating system and then when you get the log on screen select administrator .If it takes you to the desktop then you can try doing a restore by going to start ?all programs ?accessories?system tools and then system restore ? select the date when you think that you r computer was working fine and then click on next next to exit from the wizard.Should fix the issue .

If the computer does not boot up to the desktop then without wasting time on any trobleshooting steps recovery needs to be done that takes the computer back to its original factory settings. To do this instead of the f8 key tap the f11 key till you get the screen that says system recovery ,click next until you get the screen that has advance option ,click on it ?select destructive recovery ?click next the recovery will start and the computer will be formated (whatever you have added after you bought the computer would be lost ).If the recovery does not work this was then it needs to be done from the recovery disks and fot that you call call HP...

Laptop won't shut down normally!

You should go to the BIOS and load the default settings. Also, check your device manager to check if all hardware is installed and functioning properly (no conflicts, etc).
