It used to work and now it doesn't. The problem therefore lies either with your new hard drive or your laptop is unable to recognize it. However as the hard drive was installed recently I would put this down to a loose connection. Also see the BIOS, by pressing the Delete key during POST and ensure that the hard drive is detected. If not then navigate to the auto detect option, take your time in the BIOS as a mistake can be costly and only save when you are 100% sure that the selected option is correct. So go back to the beginning. Uninstall your hard drive and then reinstall it slowly and clean any-thing that looks dirty. Ensure that the placement screws are in place, also check to see that your hard drive is compatible with your Laptop, with regards to capacity and the RPM of the hard drive as 5200RPM and 7200RPM models are available. There is also the chance that your Windows disc is damaged and your DVD drive can't read the neccessary information. Try do as much as you can yourself before handing the problem to a computer technician. If all fails then if it is possible try and use your original hard drive, if it works that is.

Thanking you

From another computer build a msdos floppy disc, yes floppy disc.
I believe you computer accepts floppys does it not? and i also asume you are running xp, you can try running the startup disc and trying to check disc, but if you cannont procede, i would opt into downloading another copy of the windows and try installing through that method. If the disc dosent load, and you get that error message of the bat, another step will be waiting for you.

All you've got to do is:

1) Insert the new hard drive.
2) Press the F8 key as the laptop boots. This will take you into the BIOS.
3) Locate the disk drive priority setting in the bios.
4) Set Priority 1 to your CD/DVD drive and priority 2 to the 320GB hard drive.
5) Save settings and exit the BIOS. This should reboot your laptop.
6) Insert the Windows XP CD.
7) It should not start the setup as it recognises the CD.
8) I will recommend that you format the drive before you install, go along with the format (make sure it does a full format).
9) After the format it will reboot your system.
10) You will be prompted with a message like "Press any key to boot form CD", DON'T press anything otherwise it will start all over again.
11) Now it should start the install. Follow the on-screen instructions.

When you boot up your computer, there are usually tips like "for set up bios press F2, for recovery push F10" and so on. You need to enter the BIOS and see if there is Hard drive recognized. If not, then you need new Hard drive. Good luck!

when you boot the laptop, if you don't see a message that says press any key to boot from CD, your boot order is wrong.

Check your boot order, when you see the splash screen (logo) look for a message that says press a F1-F12 key to change boot order or if that message is not displayed, press the key to enter setup.

Look for an option that list boot order and shows your hard drive, CD/DVD and USB options.

Move the CD/DVD item to the top of the list and try again.

How to reformat back to windows vista ?

You need a windows Vista disc. Insert the disc and follow the prompts. I would format the hard drive instead of upgrading do a new install. The best way would be to go into your bios and make sure the boot device order has the cd-rom booting before the hard drive. Then put the disc in and start the computer, when it says press any key to boot from cd hit any key and let it load and then follow the prompts to install.

New hard drive required for v20

The hard drive that is installed in the V20 laptop is a 30 Gb IDE capacity hard drive.
The smallest IDE hard drive that you can purchase today is in the order of 80 to 100 Gb capacity. The BIOS in the V20 may not be able to support a hard drive this large.
If you install a hard drive of this capacity the BIOS may not detect it or it won't allow you to access the full capacity of the hard drive.
