Question about Bosch 2400ES LP AquaStar 6.4 GPM Indoor Tankless Liquid Propane Water Heate

1 Answer

I have been getting both the FA and F7 fault codes come up day after day. I don't think it's the wiring, and I don't think both the gas valve and Ionizing components are both faulty, especially since it will work for a day or two at a time without faulting. My hunch is the settings on it may need tweaking? My gas guy (my lazy, but a little bit helpful neighbor) never checked anything with a manometer or a C02 analyzer. And we converted this thing from LP to NG as well. What do you think?

You would need to check that you have the correct burner pressure that would be part of the conversion. Its NOT all ways pre-set as some think to the correct pressure .

Pilot goes out when dialed back to on position.....replaced thermo couple so I assume it's the gas valve (MPD91043) that need replacing??? Someone also mentioned a "motherboard", which I...

no I dont think you have a mother board. If there wasone it would be in a box of some sort on the top or right near the top mounted on the side.

If you replaced the coupler, I would say the gas valve is bad. Go to you local supply store and get a new valve. you should have 3 connection on the valve, the main gas feed and the main burner and your coupler.

Make sure you turn off the water at the main, drain it all down and when you have all the connection moved get a large channel lock or pipe wrench and turn the valve counter clock wise use tape or dope on the section that goes into the tank and tighten it up, hook up your other pipes and test for gas leak with soap and water.

Make sure when you buy the valve you get a match to the kind of gas you have natural or L P one will not work with the other.

OH check for gas leaks

Best of luck Tom

Have you verified that you have 12 Volts DC to gas valve when it is trying to ignite? If you have the little thermal cut-off ( looks like a small diode ) inside plastic sleeve going to terminal on thermostat, remove it and connect female end on that brown wire directly to thermostat terminal and see if it lights. If it does, get a new thermal cut-off. It's a safety device so don"t go without it. It shuts off gas to valve if there is a flame up.

http://www.bosch-climate.us/files/201009031238250.GWH715ES_English_12.2008.pdf

Above are the manuals required to diagnose and service your error code.

EA: No flame ionization detected with water flow.
Verify that all manual gas shut off valves are open. Check gas type. Reset error code and open a water tap to cycle the heater in an effort to purge air on new installations. Cycling hot water tap on and off multiple times may be necessary. If heater still faults with EA error code, have a licensed gas technician properly purge air out of the gas line leading to the water heater. Check three wire connections to ignition group on the lower front of the heat exchanger are secure. Check gas pressure. Check venting specifications are met. Improper venting may cause premature failure of the flame sensor rod. Check that the minimum power fan speed has been adjusted to the proper value. Observe inside the viewing window of the heat exchanger when a hot water tap is opened. Sparking should be followed by a steady blue flame. If flame is unstable or yellow with proper gas pressure.

Water heater burner assembly and combustion chamber probably needs clean and maintenance.
I suggest calling sears service 1-800 469-4663 or plumber.

I'm on Sears/ American/ Rheem/ Reliance etc gas water heater websites most days, and read gas water heater manuals continually.

Most people don't fix air conditioning without knowledge going in, but people think water heaters are simpler, because water heaters were simpler a few years ago.
Today, gas water heaters require testing equipment, and specialized tools, plus replacement parts.

Possible problems include: Improper fuel-air mixture, dirty air intake, venting problems, gas control valve problems, air in gas line, low gas pressure, dirty combustion parts, Water condensate dripping on burner, chemicals stored inside same room. Service technician will review all these things during troubleshoot, and you can watch technician and glean information for keeping water heater working longer than warranty.

If repairs are going to cost more than $400, then install new gas water heater yourself same day:

My rheem water heater is flashing an error code of AO and 52. no hot water. what does this mean.

This means the solenoid to the modulating gas valve is sharing a fault. You will need to inspect the wiring to the solenoid to make sure it's ok. You can ohm out the solenoid to make sure it's not open. If it is, you will need to replace it.

No central heating back boiler

back boiler run from a gas fire? check the instructions to operate the gas heat to the back boiler not just the fire
I presume that this a fully pumped system - air lock doubtful There maybe on/off valves on the pipes to and from the back boiler [situate close to cylinder] make sure they are on - anticlockwise turn
or there could be a blockage in the outlet from header tank usually in the loft. or If there is no water in it maybe the mains cold feed it is off.
Note if no water in it DO NOT USE the back boiler

into the wall and turn on the hot water see if it works. It did in my case and they are sending me a new remote panel. I hope it helps.........
