Question about SanDisk Sansa m240 MP3 Player

"Not enough space for music DB. Please free 8MB." Cannot reformat player.

I have the "Not enough space in music DB. Please free 8MB" problem. I have a 1 GB model and have read pretty much all the forums on here related to that problem but still haven't solved it. The problem is that I can't reformat my Sansa for some reason. I've tried in both FAT and FAT32 file systems and still get the same error: Windows was unable to complete the format. I really have no idea what to do and am dying to fix this! :( I've also tried to defragment the player but get an error message saying: Disk Defragmenter cannot continue prescan because there is a corruption in file: D:\.Trashes\501. When I plug the player into the computer, the welcome screen appears, then the "Not enough space..." message appears, then the USB Connected MSC or the USB Reading Data...MSC screen appears. I can't access the menu or do anything on the player. The No Files 0/0 screen also shows for me. Windows regonizes the player when I plug it into the computer too. I tried this also on a Mac, but when I plug it in, it's not recognized by the Mac, and the screen says: USB Reading Data...MSC. I tried using Disk Utilities to refomat my player but it also does not work. If anyone has any idea how to help me I'd greatly appreciate your help! Thanks in advance.

Link to the English manual:

http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/pdf/retail/Sansa_ug_Eng_m200.pdf

On page 30-31 it explains how to RESET the unit to the factory defaults. I believe that should clear your DB error. let me know, thanks.

whenever i turn on my sansa m230 mp3 player, it displays the message, "not enough space for music DB, please free 8mb." And so i plug it into my friends computer and when i open the music folder on the device, its empty, even though it says that there is quite a bit of space used up. Do you have any answers?.

The Music DB refers to the Music Database, or the Artist, Album, and Song info.

The error means your device is too full. It needs some free space on the device to create this information.

Connect your device to the PC and manually delete some files from it in My Computer>Device Name (m240)>MUSIC Folder.

It needs 6MB of free space, so you may need to delete several songs.

Disconnect the device from the PC, it should restart and you should be ok. If the message continues, keep deleting files until its gone,

Best of Luck.

Not enough space for music db

Your device has too much music on it.

You need at least 8MB free in order for it to build the "database".

Connect the device to your computer, delete 10 songs, then re-start the player and you should be back to normal.

Best of Luck.

No files

The device needs at least 8MB to build the Music DB (database or GUI). You need to manually delete some files from the device. You will need to connect it to the PC and open it in My Computer>Device Name>Music Folder. Delete a few songs, disconnect and restart the device. You can add to the question if you need more assistance. Best of Luck.
