SOURCE: computer is on, but screen is blank. used Fn &

If you shine a flashlight on the display, can you faintly see an image? If so, the trouble is that the backlight isn't working. This is pretty common, and it's usually because the inverter in the display goes bad.

Replacing the inverter is fairly simple. You need to open the open the display, which is normally a matter of removing screws at the corners and separating the front bezel from the back. The inverter is a small circuit board at the bottom, held in by one or two screws. A couple of cables plug into it. Unplug them, mount the replacement and reconnect it, put the display back together and you've repaired your own laptop. Of course you can also take the computer to a service shop if you don't feel up to trying the repair yourself.

Replacement inverters are pretty easy to find for the major brand computers. A few minutes searching the Web or checking on eBay will give several sources. Typically a new inverter costs $30 to $50. There are also many YouTube videos showing how to replace an inverter.

Good luck! Thanks for using Fixya.

SOURCE: pressing fn key and f1 key to turn on wireless

some laptops have a special button for that ...take a look if you see some buttons in front of the edge ..and see the wifi symbol ..after press it look if any leds are on for wireless
Another thing you should check if the driver for the wireless card is installed and it is enabled...For that get into bios first and default all settings to the factory optimal defaults...after that save changes with f10 and restart is the time to look into the device manager to see if any of the newly enabled devices are in yellow with an ask sign on them ...In this case those are the ones that need drivers to be installed
if you do not have a drivers cd for the operation system that you have in use..go to the support site of the manufacturer ,choose downloads..and look for your exact model and operating system ...Most manufacturers have all the drivers needed in free downloads on the site ..
if you find your exact model on this site will have all the drivers too..

Why the f8 key dont work in my pc?

What type of computer ?

What are you trying to do ?

Enter safe mode ?
Because of the small amount of space available, many smaller-screened Dell laptops come with a special key known as the "Function," or "Fn" key. The purpose of this key is to double the functions of multiple keys, most commonly the F1 through F12 keys. On some Dell laptops, the F1 through F12 keys are locked from use to give way to more commonly accessed commands and program shortcuts. However, unlocking an "F" key, such as F8, is not difficult.

Press and hold the "Fn" key on your laptop's keyboard. This key will usually be shaded blue and is located in the bottom row. Press the F8 key on your keyboard while still holding the "Fn" key. This will have unlocked the F8 key. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary to unlock any other "F" keys you wish to use.

My Wi-Fi on Lenova Think Pad T60 is not working. I tried to update the drivers. Still not working.

What is it doing? Still not working could mean a lot of things!!! Is the computer connected to the wireless network? You've got to connect to the network before you can do anything. And most times the problem with connecting to the network is people key the network key or password wrong so the wireless just keeps on polling trying to connect.

Do you have the wireless turned on on the notepad? Sometimes there might be a wireless switch somewhere that you have to turn on. Also most times you can toggle the wireless On and Off by hitting the FN Function key and the corresponding F1 thru F12 key that toggles the wireless. Most times the correct F1 thru F12 key will have a wireless icon signal on it sorta like ))))) or it may show a tower with the signals. Once you find the correct F1 thru F12 key to press then Press and Hold the FN Function key then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key. If you look at your screen most times it will let you know if you've toggled the wireless by displaying Wireless On or Wireless Off.

My wifi not working

LOL, wifi does not work off a network cable. The network cable is used for a local connection to a modem or router. Wifi doesn't not require a cable. Did it use to work? Have you checked on both sides of the laptop and in front of the laptop to make sure you have not turned the wifi switch off if there is one? Have you checked to make sure you have not hit the FN (Function Key) + (F1 thru F12 function key) that toggles the wifi on an off? When you Press the FN key and hold it down while pressing the Function Key that corresponds to toggling the wireless normally it will display on the screen Wireless On or Wireless Off. The correct key should have a wireless signal icon like )))) on it. That's the key you want to hit while holding the FN key.

I need to know what the keys f1-f12 keys usage.

The uses for the function (f1-f12) keys varies based on which program you have open at the time. Different programs use them for different things.

However, your computer also has some default uses for these keys when combined with pressing the fn (function) key.

fn + f1 locks computer

fn + f2 changes our power use profile

fn + f3 puts the computer to sleep

fn + f4 puts the computer into hibernation mode

fn + f5 changes the display/output mode

fn + f6 decreases the screen brightness

fn + f7 increases the screen brightness

fn + f8 enables/disables wireless connections

fn + f9 enables/disables the touch pad

fn + f10 turns the cursor overlay on/off

fn + f11 turns the numeric overlay on/off

fn + f12 turns scroll lock on/off

I need to connect to wireless on my laptop. There is no switch but the keyboard has the F1 key with a wireless sign. How do I turn it on? I have tried it with the Fn key without any luck. Thanks

Hi miksibanda,
Did you try Fn and F1 pressing at same time? On the right bottom side of the of the task bar a wireless signal bars? If you see that the wireless is on. double click a click view wireless network connection. The ssid of your router you will show then connect and enter the wep key or passphrase. I hope this will help you connect wirelessly.
