Avic Z3 open monitor will not close

When trying to insert a disc and I push the monitor open button it cycles open then closes half way back.  It will not respond to further button pushes and will not allow a disc to be inserted.  Only turning off the ignition switch will make it close again.  I have reset the unit and that does not help.

The problem of your player is the mechanism, theres a parts overlap thats why the roller cannot run smootly, most common causes is that the roller had accumulated dirt that why the grease thier is hardened you better clean that roller with a lighter fluid and changed the old grease ,a type -A grease, the roller is the part that moving back and port bringing the lense set.If this roller clean the operation is back to normal again.

There is most likely a sensor that tells the motor to stop at the open position. If that sensor is failing then the motor will keep turning. When the unit trips another sensor out of sequence it stops. Turning of the power and turning it back on resets the unit to the home position.

I would try to blow any dust and debris out of the machine with some compressed air. If that doesn't work and if your are within warranty then call Pioneer for support and service. If you don't have warranty, you could always try to open the unit and check the movement and sensors for anything that may be broken or out of place.

You may be able to find a broken Z3 on eBay that you may be able to salvage parts from.

There are a series of microswitches and sensors to determine the location of the tray as well as the loading condition. Any of these switches or sensors could be bad or the loading mechanism could be out of alignment. Either condition will not allow the DVD to complete the loading cycle. Turning of fhte ignition switch will cause the unit to shutdown which will retract the tray. I would first suspect that the loading mechanism is out of alignment. The unit will need to be removed from the vehicle and the loading mechanism rebuilt to realign the gearing and cams for proper function. This should not require any parts other than perhaps a belt. Figure on $2-$5 for the belt and the local labor rate for the total repair cost.

Thank you for the update. Since this is a new unit, you are correct in assuming that a rebuild should not be necesary. Please return this unit for a replacement under warranty. There is a problem with it that should be covered.

The D3 does not have a good navigation system in it, and because it is old and beyond its life cycle the fractional wear on the drive causes it to have trouble reading discs. Try cleaning the disc with a little water and soft cotton cloth. Do not touch the bottom of the disc after you clean it. If that does not work, then you need a new disc. You can try making a copy of the disc you have. If the program on the disc is good then you just need a copy that your unit will like. To make it simple.

One of the pistons that move the screen in place must be stuck. The unit must be taken apart to fix this.

My screen wont go up or down. i can hear the motor run when i push the button

Replacing the unit will be the cheapest solution once that motor is gone your pretty much out of luck, try getting a double din video screen next time, the motorized ones has constant issues of failing no matter how cool it looks opening and closing.

AVIC N2 WONT READ MY NAV DISC,WHEN I PUSH MY MENU BUTTON IT SAYS INSERT APPROPRIATE DISC, NOT SURE WHAT DISC IT WHANTS

The nav discs come in a set of two. Disc 1 and Disc 2. Insert disc 1 first, if unit does not respond or read nav disc, then you may have a bad copy of the nav disc or incorrect copy.

You need to get an up to date navi disc. There is a procedure to down grade it, so it would read the yellow disc. But it will mess up the unit if you do it wrong. Beside half of the current info won't be on the yellow disc anyway, because it is so out dated. Goodluck.

It is probably the ribbon cable that you can see when the screen closes. This is a known problem and the part is sometimes hard to find. But is available.

Sound like the ribbon cable because before breaking off completely the vibration of the engine can cause current to fade in and out(open and close circuit).
