    hey nonotech......
there two problems with this solution............one is that i had initially tried getting the phone repaired by taking it to the nokia care centre where after completely disassembling the phone the nokia guys had estimated the repair cost to be 2300 rupees which is approx 50$ as it was slider connection stripbwhich had broken and not the LCD.....
now will this disassembling of phone erase the data on C: drive of the phone.....

And the second thing...the solution which you have suggested which is the most commonly found solution on the internet......there is no File manager on S40 phones.....if there is I'm sincerely requesting you please help me locate it....else let me know how to access the C: drive on a S40 phone......

    Thanks....

It's not so easy to recover the password of a 40 Series Nokia mobiles, but if the contents of the memory card is critical, I would highly recommend you to get the phone repaired. The LCD (display) comes under $10 (Click Here) [Price Varies]. There are several methods, but it's not possible without loosing the data and most of all, it's not applicable to 40 series except this one:

  1. Go to file manager on your mobile,
  2. In the "Settings" option,
  3. Choose system folders,
  4. In the "System" folder there's a file called "MMCSTORE",
  5. Send that to your PC using IR or Bluetooth,
  6. Then open it in notepad.
  7. The password you need for your memory card is in that file

But to do this, you'll at least need your phone to show the display, otherwise there's no other option.

Actually, the memory card information is stored on the System folder, i.e. C: drive of the phone, not on the memory card, so the memory card alone without the phone is useless (the only phone where the password was set for the memory card).

It'll cost you lesser (and the most important thing is your data), getting a new LCD or repair it and get the data than trying with not guaranteed options. You may also loose the data while trying out with other options.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I don't understand why Nokia Guy estimated that much i.e. Rs.2300 (approx), the Flex Cable without camera shouldn't cost more than Rs.400 (max) and you could also get the same at Rs.200/- (Click Here). Actually, I don't recommend getting it repaired from Nokia Care unless it's under warranty as you know that they charge more than Local Repair shops. If the flex cable is with Camera, of course it costs more than Rs.1000/-.

This is the flex with the Camera

I am not sure which city you are based but I guess you are in India. If so, there're many Mobile Repair shops everywhere where you can get it repaired. You if the flex cable is damaged, I don't think you need to replace the other cable with the Camera (there are two flex cables) and if the other part isn't damaged, you don't need to replace it. The part with the camera may cost something more than Rs.500/- (not very sure since I never buy that part).

I would suggest you get it repaired from a Local Repair shop instead of that Nokia Care and later backup the files after it's been fixed. The data will never be damaged unless they touch the ICs or any modules on the PC Board (Printed Circuit Board), so you need not to worry about that, but remind them that there are important files. But if you mean your memory card's data, then there's no problem and you'll still be able to open up the memory card on the phone.

Regarding the other option, it's not possible on your handset, since the data are saved on the phone memory, you'll not be able to access the system folder and the system folder(s) are hidden.

Let me know if you need further help.

Sorry for the delay, while preparing to post back this comment, the connection was lost and I couldn't do anything but wait..

    All the Best.

Well, unfortunately I am based in Mumbai :-) and honestly I am not familiar with Pune (visited only once for a business trip). But like Mumbai, I hope there must be many Mobile Repair Shops in Pune too. I would recommend you to look for a small repair shop rather than a big shop, we can communicate with smaller shops better since there are only few (1 or 2 people per shop) while at big stores there are several people which is confusing and takes much longer compared to the services at small shops. Repairing works are also done where mobile repair training are provided. If you could find a Mobile Spare Store, then you better get the cable yourself before after you confirm which part is to be replaced. That'll cost you much lesser. And always bargain, there's no fix price for these things, only the store owner decides the price. Since all these parts are imported from China as Wholesale items, we have many advantages and disadvantages, so don't forget to ask for Original, otherwise you'll be given the Duplicate.

First of all, forget about your password, rather do something to get your data. Yes there are several free or licensed softwares to recover password or data from hdd or memory card or pendrive etc.. but they are never 100%, and once a memory card or any media is formatted, you can't assure that you'll recover all the data, of course you'll but you don't know which one or how many or whether all, so don't trust them for now. Even if you use a password cracker, the only thing is Brute Force Attacks, Guessing and Dictionary Attacks, so no one can guarantee.

To attempt unlock password for a memory card, there's no limit, but that might cause your memory card to damage since there's various inputs and outputs voltage levels when you do so.

My Nokia 5610 music phone got password protected

If you have a Memory Card adapter slide the micro sd card into the adapter, and make sure the slider on the adapter is NOT in the lock position. If you do not have an adapter put the sd card in the phone and then go through all your memory settings and make sure you dont have it locked through the phone. Hope this helps!
