Question about eMachines eME720-4691 Notebook
I am assuming that there are other USB ports on your notebook that are working and that all of them are occupied. If this is correct, you can purchase a USB hub that will expand a single USB port on your notebook to a larger number of ports. You may need to have a powered hub depending on the devices that you are connecting. USB hubs are not expensive (under $10). Hard drives, CD/DVDs and other power users will probably require a powered hub.
An example of a USB hub can be found at: http://3btech.net/sublfopopous.html
This is not a product recommendation, but an example of what a hub is and how it could help your situation. You can find many other choices by searching for "USB hub".
It is also possible that your USB port has become disabled and needs to be re-enabled through Windows. Look at CONTROL PANEL; SYSTEM; DEVICE MANAGER; UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS. Then examine each one listed to verify that the system thinks they are working correctly. If not, you can take appropriate action from the tabs on that window.
