Convert ds2 file to dss

I do typing for 3 people, 2 of which send me dss files and one of which sends me ds2 files. I cannot open the ds2 files. I have been told that if i load the software for ds2 file, it will conflict with the other dss software. Is there a way of converting the ds2 file to a dss file?
Much appreciated if you could help me.
Regards,

Lynette

I also have .DS2 files. I am unable to hear them with GearPlayer. Any suggestions? I have tried renaming the file extension to DSS - no help there.

my problem is not open ds2 files and no convert to wav

  • Anonymous Aug 19, 2008

With the help of Olympus technical support we "downgraded" the DS5000 Olympus to write DSS files instead of DS2files.
We are now awaiting Olympus' effort to fix this problem.
Did the marketing people not talk to their technicians prior to release of their product?

Same problem here. DS2 is a different format to DSS. Express Scribe cannot read DS2 and changing extension to DSS makes no difference.

Same deal here, after reading this post I called Olympus and they said there is no way to automatically save these files down in the DSS format. Once dictation is recorded you can convert the DS2 files to DSS by manually going into the Olympus program and converting files to DSS. I need this done automatically. Nobody seems to know!

  • benfanti Nov 25, 2008

I have seen several posts stating that you can manually convert the DS2 file to DSS using the software.  I am using DSS Player for Mac v7.1.0 and can't figure out how to do it.  Any help would be much appreciated!

Best option is to get the person using the recorder which creates the .ds2 files, which is likely to be an Olympus DS-5000, to set the recorder to record audio in "classic mode" which will produce .dss files. Here is a YouTube video on how to set the DS-5000 to record in classic mode.

DSS files are produced by professional voice recorders like the Olympus DS-5000 and Philips LFH-9600.

You can convert DSS Pro files (.ds2) and DSS Classic files (.dss) to Wave files (.wav) with DSS Pro File Converter . The software is $19 but comes with at free 30 day trial. It is sold by PCDictate.com a great place to purchase USB foot pedals and other transcription equipment.

Solution 9 is an advert from the Voelkers who author this software, which by the way does not work.

This is not a solution, but from my experience, you can load the new Olympus software and it will read the DSS file format. Also in the new Olympus program you can manually convert the DS2 format to DSS format. I have also found the NCH transcription software that uses the IN-USB pedal to be helpful. This is a free download from www.nch.com.au/scribe

I purchased the DS-2400 software and Bingo ! it did download files in the DSS format. You know Olympus Tech support sucks! You would think they would know the product. Thanks everyone for helping !

I am a contract transcriptionist and have an Olympus DSS player AS-2300. I had searched online for a answer to transcribing the new DS2 formats and found no viable solution. Fortunately, I finally broke down and called Olympus. I wish I had done that in the beginning. Not sure where they get the bad rap for customer service. They were great. I emailed me a link for two updates to download for FREE and it worked. I'm back in business -- literally.

Hopefully I can help out some:
1) The DSS Pro format is a proprietary format, as is the DSS format, and it's very unlikely ExpressScribe will be able to listen to them. According to Olympus and Philips, ExpressScribe's makers are using the DSS format without licensing it from the owners, so don't expect the manufacturers to help ExpressScribe in the future.
2) If you're using Olympus software now, you can update your software to listen to .ds2 (DSS Pro) files simply by getting the latest update (see http://www.AmericanDictation.com/Support.html, click on "Downloads").
3) If you don't have the Olympus software, there is no way of converting .ds2 to .dss. Your dictator will have to change their DS-5000 to record in "Classic" mode.
4) The new DS-2400 ONLY records in .ds2 format, so you will need the later software, or the AS-2400 Transcription Kit to be able to listen to files produced by this consumer recorder.
I know it's confusing, and the new format is causing some issues with folks. However, the new format does give users better security options and better sound quality.
If you transcribe lots of work, you may well want to consider getting an AS-5000 Transcription Kit, which gives you the ability to listen to all formats, convert from one format to the other, and securely transfer files over the Internet.
My 2 cents.

Just to add: Olympus Pro Dictate Versino 5 will allow you to Automatically convert any files loaded into one of its folders from DS2 to DSS format. Go to Options/Folder Design. click on a folder and look at the line item "Format Conversion". If you have version 4 of Olympus Pro, you get version 5 upgrade at no cost. You just need to download or request it from a dealer. If you are not Pro 4, then you have to pay for the upgrade, $99 list. Getting the DS5000 user to change to DSS Classic is best option, IF they are on DS5000's. If they are on the DS2400, you are out of luck.

I was able to change it to record in classic format using the Olympus software development kit. I created a program that does this automatically when the recorder is plugged in.

Olympus ds-2400 voice recorder is saving files as ds2 - how do we convert them to dss

The DS-2400 were one of the first Olympus DVRs to use the new DSS Pro (.ds2) format.

We later discovered that you will need to update the firmware to in order to have it revert to the standard DSS format (.dss)

You will need the DS-2400_FirmwareUpdate_DssClassic to make this happen. All certified dealers will have access to this firmware update.

Stay classy,

Voice Recorder-Files to CD?

Please follow the below solutions to create either an audio CD-ROM of .wav files or back-up
.wav files to a CD-ROM.
Problem: .Wav files downloaded to PC computer from the DW-90, VN Series, and DSS Files
created with DS Series recorders cannot be copied to a rewritable CD-ROM using Windows
Media Player to create an audio CD-ROM.
Explanation: These digital voice recorders create .wav files at 8kHZ, 12kHZ, or 22kHz
depending on the Quality setting. Digital Wave player software is used to download Wav files to
a PC computer from the DW or VN Series of recorders. DSS Player is used to download DSS
files from the DS Series recorders and convert them to Wav files. If Windows Media Player is
then used to copy the files to a rewritable CD-ROM to create an audio CD-ROM, the files will
not copy properly or an error message may appear. Windows Media Player can only create an
audio CD-ROM if the .wav file is 44.1kHZ, 16 bit stereo.
Solution: Follow the procedure below to convert the .wav files to 44.1 kHZ, 16 bit stereo. Then
use Windows Media Player to copy the files to a rewritable CD-ROM.
1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Entertainment, and then click Sound Recorder.
2. On the File menu, click Open.
3. In the Open dialog box, specify the name of the audio file that you want to convert, and
then click OK. Files are usually located at C:\Program Files\Olympus\Digital Wave
Player\Message\Folder A.
4. On the File menu, click Save As.
In the Save As dialog box, click Change.
In the Attributes box, click 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo, and then click OK.
Click Save. After you convert your files, try to copy them to a CD-ROM again.

Cannot convert WMA to WAV files

The DSSPlayer software will not allow you to convert the WMA files to WAV. The recorder on SP uses .DSS as the file type and that file can be converted to WAV using DSS Player. Olympus released DSS Player 7 for VISTA and you will have to have it before the pair will work normally.
