Step one: Reset the printer
CAUTION: Do NOT perform any other type of reset on the printer before the ink initialization process has been completed.

  1. Without turning the power off, remove the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall socket.
  2. Wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cord to the printer and to the wall socket. Turn the unit on if it is not already turned on.
  3. Check the printer for the error message. If the error message still displays, go to the next step.
Step two: Clean the cartridge contacts
  1. Lift the top cover. Figure 1: Lifting the top coverink repair hp c6180 - c00813643.gif

Inkjet printers do not like being left unused.
The print head may be blocked. Try several deep cleaning of the print head to see if it can clear the blocked print nozzles.
If none of this works then the print head needs to be replaced.
NOTE the print head is not a cheap item, you may consider putting the money towards a new and better printer.

HP C6180 wont print magenta

I entered the terms C6180 HP magenta into Google and got over 300,000 search results. This would appear to be a common problem with this and similar HP printers.

One source of problems is HP's tactics to prevent you from using other manufacturers ink cartridges. If the printer is still under warranty, send it back to HP quick. If you can get your money back, that is probably a good idea. If your cartridges are non-HP your warranty may be void.

The entire industry is based on dirt cheap printers with expensive print cartridges. This has been the industry norm for twenty years or so. The printer cartridges include the little nozzles that spray the ink on the paper. They can't be repaired and if they are defective you should ask for a refund.

You might exchange the printer for another one and you may never have another problem but note that caveat emptor applies and your mileage may vary.

Personally, I'd check consumer reports or other online review sites before buying another printer ... but I have at least six crapped out printers I can't bear to throw out!

Good luck!

I have an c6180 all in one,I just got new ink and it is still telling me to replace the yello ink.what do i need to do?

Are you sure that the yellow ink is part of a cartridge that is a genuine HP product? Sometimes aftermarket ink doesn't work so well.

And, you may want to reboot the computer and turn the printer off then on to reset the ink monitor.

The ink monitor is a software controlled monitor which can sometimes be inaccurate.

Do you have the latest firmware and software drivers for the c6180 printer, available for download from hp.com?

I have an HP printer c6180 and am getting error 0xc18a0201

The code you mentioned sounds like an Ink System Failure code. My C6180 had the 0xc19a0035 Ink System Failure code, eventually the printer would power on and off every 15-20 seconds - continuously. Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3 failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable web references to this manufacturer). I purchased 3x 330uF 16V and 1x 680uF 10v rated to 105 degrees Celsius (total about 60cents). On the logic board, the capacitors I replaced are labeled C613, C614, C660 and C662. If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a solder pen. This fixed the on and off problem and also fixed the ink system failures the printer was having. A similar fix may apply to other HP printers. acca299.jpg

I have a HP Photosmart C6180 All-in-One printer that is 3 years old. It has been a great printer for our home. Today it decided it would no longer print and I get the following message: Ink System...

I had an ink system error message on my C6180 that evolved into the printer power cycling every 15 seconds of so. Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). A similar fix may apply to other printers produced by HP around this time. acca299.jpg

Can't use my original ink # 363

Actually you cannot use your # 363 ink on your photosmart c6180. The ink is not compatible with the printer. Photosmart c6180 only uses HP02 vivera inks. And there is no way that you can reconfigure it because it is factory default. Unless you bought an HP02 ink from other country outside US and bought the printer in US, that's the only time that we can reconfigure the regionalization of the printer
