Where is the defrost relay button?

Frigidaire equips most of its refrigerator models with automatic defrosting capabilities. This means that owners don't have to set a calendar reminder to manually defrost. The internal automatic defrost control and timing mechanism is placed at the bottom of most Frigidaire refrigerators, next to the stationary panicon1.png that captures water - even the defrosted meltwater is automatically evaporated. You might be confused about how the defrost timer works, thinking it is broken. Frigidaire understood this might be an issue for some owners and suggests double-checking the defroster for normal operation because it may not be malfunctioning at all.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Without your model number here is what most likely has happened:
The automatic defrosting system is not working due to a component failure.

The components of the automatic defrost system are:
1. Defrost control
2. Defrost heater
3. Defrost thermostat.
4. Wiring to inter-connect 1 - 3 above.

What your currently doing is a manual defrost cycle every 3 weeks because ice blocks the air-flow across the evaporator in the freezer compartment so everything starts warming up in the fresh food section first and finally the freezer as the ice block gets larger.

FYI you can unplug it... remove the contents from the freezer...use an external directed into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours to do the same process your doing in 24 hours. Until the automatic defrost system is repaired you should do a manual defrost at least every 4 days.
Most units are on an automatic defrost cycle of 6 - 8 hours (usually) all the way up to 10.35 hours per cycle. Yours just is not working at all.

Have a GE tfx28ppdabb and the frig side gets hot, defrosted the freezer but the problem comes back after a week

Is it an automatic self defrosting unit? If so, defrosting the freezer will cure your problem temporarily. When the defrost timer fails to defrost automatically, ice builds up again and plugs the chute between the freezer and the fridge and the fridge gets hot.....If this action is repeatable,(meaning you can manually defrost but it only lasts a few days) then for some reason, the automatic defrost timer is not working. It's either the timer itself or one of the fuses.....there is always the chance that the thermostat, which tells the timer when to turn on and off, is also defective, but most of the time, the defrost timer is the culprit. Check the fuses first, then the defrost timer.

Hotpoint side by side not cooling & freezer is freezing up

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
What your seeing is the result of an automatic defrosting problem. One of three things has failed
1. Defrost Control (most common failure)
2. Defrost Heating Element or
3. Defrost Thermostat

A refrigerator must automatically defrost 2 to 3 times a day or you will see the symptoms you are experiencing now. You can do a manual defrost by unplugging the unit and direct an external fan into the freexer compartment for just over 2 hours to get the temps down again. The only thing is after about 2 days the ice build up gets to the point that your freezer temps start warming up again. The correct remedy is to repair the automatic defrosting system.

Without a model number I can not provide you with the replacement part(s) source.

It seams to automaticly self defrost, draining into the trat below.

your refrigerator is supposed to defrost automatically, usually every six to eight hours depending on the type of defrost relay timer you have. Most timers are either six or eight hour. this is a normal condition.

Automatic defrost no longer works

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
