Question about Philips WACS700 Shelf System

1 Answer

I have a Philips wac700/79 AU and repaired the amplifier. Then an issue with the supply came up and suspected it was a zener diode (Z12). I took it out to test and lost it. Later I found out I was wrong, it was an inductor. Anyway, the part was lost and run over and I didn't get a rating for the diode. Can anyone help me identify Z12? Thanks in advance. mike

    Thanks for your reply.

I found the schematics for the stereo, but they only have a block diagram for the supply.

As for the diode next to Z12, I also assumed that would be the case but I only get one shot at getting it right, so I wanted to make absolute certain it was the right one before I bought it.

I realize this isn't much of an answer, but I would contact Philips directly.Schematics ARE NOT downloadable free anywhere due to copyright and/or patent laws.I always get a bad rating when I post that, but it is a fact.I have researched the laws thoroughly. If it is the first diode on the input from wall power, the one next to it connected in parallel to Z12 would be the same exact rating. As far as finding it,if you are not near a major city, the part may cost less than $1,but S&H could easily be $6 and up,and also will come in a static-preventive bag.If you are not near a major city, when you find something out, please let me know first.Just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I am currently looking for a couple electronic components for someone else, and would simply mail with a stamp.I live near a major city also and the google I did Sunday I saved but my schedule has not allowed me to call places yet this week, but will happen by Friday. Also,do not approve/disapprove yet as it will cut off our link. Here is Philips link.I would think they would at least tell you the proper rating.A schematic could easily be $50+. Yeah, block diagram is useless in this case.I really would like to know though. Is Z12 right off of the wall outlet?Heck,I'll even call them if you want me to and it isn't.

Have a couple of questions.Where are you?Is this an amplifier?I called Philips and they do not have that model number in their system, but I am in the USA.If you are not in the USA,you will have to call Philips to find a rating.AU could mean an Australian version,or auxilary unit,or none of the above.Greg

Most Large Flat Panel Televisions have components on the power supply go bad; if you know how to use a soldering iron, sometime they can be repaired, most common component failures are zener diodes and capacitors. If you can't solder, but can use a multimeter, you might be able to diagnose the issue; if you need a new power supply they can sometime be found on ebay for a reasonable cost... If it is anything more serious then that, it's not worth fixing... hope this helps...

MCS 160 Boston Subwoofer ZD3 Zener Diode Value

ZD3 is a 18v zener. Also check the surface mount resistor on the back of the board that is attached to ZD3, I think it is R9. Should be 10 ohms. This resistor sometimes opens when the diode goes short.

What is the zener volt

I'm not sure what your question is. A zener diode is a voltage regulator of sorts. The zener voltage is the avalanche voltage...the voltage that the zener diode will maintain when it's connected in series with an impedance, usually a resistor, IF the voltage across the zener diode and the impedance, in series, is greater than the avalanche voltage (zener voltage), and the polarity of the voltage across the zener diode is thus: positive cathode, negative anode (i.e., reverse bias). The excess voltage (the margin) appears across the impedance. Zeners are often used as voltage reference diodes in regulated power supplies. Does this answer your question?

Zener diode and hum in guitar amp

It could be the diodes, but whatever is the cause it's before the pre-amp section. Generally a loud hum such as that with no effect by volume control, is mostly caused by the filter capacitor in the power supply. And that hum is the 50HZ mains hum getting into your system!

My hitachi 29in ctv power supply 110vac had a problem on zener diode will blown if we switch on the tv. what spare parts to change so that the power supply zener diode will not blown again and the supply...

The secondary output voltage comes out from is more than it should be there. That is why, the protection zener diode blows off, as soon as you switch ON the set. First find and repair the power supply regulator, for correct output voltage. Refer its repair book for details. After repair include the zener diode in place. OK.

AKAI LCT2715 will not turn on gives blinking

This series of TVs has a famous issue with the power board (part number MLT166A or similar). Several capacitors and zener diodes burn out causing some resistors to burn as well. If you are capable of doing component level repairs check capacitors on the board and zeners Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5 and resistors around them. If you prefer to spend hundred bucks and simply buy the working power board for it - ebay is your answer.

Check the zener diodes over by the fuses, where the 2 chokes or load coils are. TThere are 3 or 4 Of the diodes, they are zener diodes. I had the same problem and found it to be one bad zener diode. Check my solution out on the 7202, same thing.

Panasonic sa -ak 27

This is a common error for these Panasonic units. I work at an authorized Panasonic service center and have repaired many of these.

This error is caused by either 1 of these 2 problems, both of which will require service for replacement of parts.

1. The amplifier IC is bad and needs to be replaced.

2. There are a couple of smaller components in the amp circuit that need to be replaced. One is a zener diode and the other is a resistor.

The F61 error is caused by a bad amp circuit or power supply circuit. In most cases it is the amp circuit. More often than not, it is the zener diode and resistor that are bad. This would be preferable since the amplifier IC is very expensive and a total repair cost would be close to $200. The zener diode and resistor repair would be closer to about $100 depending on the rates of the service center.

I know this may not be the answer you were hoping to get, but it is the problem you have.

If you found this information helpful in making a decision on what to do with your stereo a FixYa! rating would be appropriate and very much appreciated, after all, it is the only reward we get for offering free help to people like yourself.

Hi, This is not a big issue, but you need to be carefull when you fix this. The main supply is ok. You need to look for that they call a Zener Diode. This will be connect in serie with a resistor so the time you going to spend finding this fault will be a lot. Also check your supply to the front panel and see that the supply is good
