In order to format your laptop, you need to secure first your Operating System CD and the drivers for your laptop. Next, you have to back-up your files. Put them somewhere like an external drive for easy retrieval later.
After you've done this, you are now ready to go.
Here are the steps: 1) Insert the OS cd in your cd/dvd rom. 2) Restart your laptop. 3) While your laptop is still booting, press the key that will enable the bott sequence set-up. 4) Once the boot sequence shows up, choose CD/DVD Drive and press enter. 5) The next screen that will appear will be a blue screen with white text below. This means you have entered your OS CD already. 6) From there, you'll be guided with step by step instructions so you won't be lost. Just read it carefully.
Note: After successfully formatting your laptop, you need to install all your drivers.

If the computer came with the restore "Partition" instead of disks, you can re-set it to the original factory settings. When the computer starts and you see the DELL logo press the CTRL key and the F11 key at the same time, then follow the prompts.
Sometimes there are keys are your laptop that adjust your settings.
If you know which keys you can hit the fn key simultaneously.
If your not sure go on line and you should be able to find a site that will tell you how to adjust your screen.
In search type your laptop model then type display settings
If the plasic clips are damaged then you can get replacements from ebay very cheaply, just search for you laptops model number + replacement keys, most will come with the clips and instructions on how to fit them.
If they are intact then they will just clip back onto the keyboard, if you tell me the laptop model i can tell you how, there should also be a little rubber "spring" which allows the key to spring back up. for most keyboards they will go back on with the wider edge at the bottom.
dear krissyblonde your laptop is having bios password i assume,you have to unplug the powercord and open the case then remove the bios battery and wait for 5 sec. after 5 sec put the battery back and put the power cord and boot your laptop. Plz post your findings
