please disconnect the ADAPTER +battery and HOLD the power button by 30 seconds. Then connect again the adapter +battery and try again. You did HARD reset for to discharge the ESD from electrical power. However if the problem persist, you must go to restart the machine and hold the f8 key and go in safe mode with network, and pass the scanner disck+antiviru+antimalware+software diagnostic coming with you computer , try again.God bless you
Sounds like ether a blown power supply. That happens when the laptop battery has alittle juice left.
Try to take out the battery from the bottom and plug the laptop in the wall. If the laptop powers up you battery needs to be replaced. If it doesn't power up, you need to replace the power supply.
Sounds like you may have fried your dell latitude. I have seen many laptop's fry and it is nothing you did, but they just go sometimes.
Recomendaitons:
Take the battery out of the laptop.
Plug the charger in.
Hold the power button for a minimum 10 secs (which will reset the power options)
If there are still no lights than it is your cpu
If the computer turns on then you have a bad battery.
When batteries are bad or dead, the computer tries to run off of the battery befor the charger, it switches over to the charger after your OS has booted. In that case you can just order a new one no big deal, but if your cpu is fried then there is no hope for the laptop. :( I have lost four laptops because of this, so for your sake I hope its the battery or the GND Drain.
Also possible that the GND's drain on your board is too short and Gate 4 is driving low. To fix this you have to remove a SMT ceramic cap, which is located opposite side to the power connector, almost under it. I would guess at 1206 or slightly larger and there is an 0402 cap just next to its bottom pad at 90 degrees to it. A couple of Dell Latitude d505 have had this problem and can easily be fixed, but must be cautious and know what you are doing. I would advise seeing a professional.
i had a c640 with the same issue.. the cause was a power short to the cpu.. wich meant the cpu didn't get power.. the metal base under the board gave the board to much presure the metal base was bent as soon as i took of the fan he started normal.. so what uou can do: take the fan off , and try to power up.. just a few seconds..
also the cdrom or flop can cause a short, maybe you can try that first..take them out and power up
You may want to make sure that it's pushed in all the way, as sometimes, those round plugs can fool you. Otherwise, make sure that the outlet is fully working.
Dell laptops normally have a 3-way toggle for the display destination: 1=screen 2= external display and 3=Both. To toggle from one mode to the next press hold the 'FN' key (lower left corner of the Key board), and the briefly press the 'F8' key. Wait a few seconds for the hardware to catch up and you should see a display through the projector. If not, repeat the 'Fn' + 'F8' combo again.
You could also try running diagnostics to verify that teh video card is working properly. To do that, sthar with the laptop off. Hold the 'Fn' key down while you press the power button. Release both as the machine begins to boot up. It should start in diagnostics mode. Run the quick test and watch for the color bars. If you see then, the video card so=huold be OK.
Good luck, And please let me know how it turns out for you.
remove all drives, RAM, battery, cards and any external connections, and see if the Lock LED indication changes. If it does change, add 1 RAM module, and see if the system POSTs. If it posts, add items back till you ID the one preventing post and replace it. If no change, then replace the motherboard ($150 or so on EBay)
