Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a frigidaire side by side fridge. Tonight I opened the freezer and everything was iced over. We removed the ice tray and blew hot air using a hair dryer into the square hole in the back. (we were told to do that before when the freezer was stuck on chipped ice. We were able to remove all the ice that flowed into the freezer, but now there is a slow drip of water coming out of the front of the freezer just under the water/ice despenser on the door. Why do you think this is happening and can we fix it easily?

Our model is GS26HSZBC3. Also - now the ice despenser is not working at all and just seams to be putting water into the ice despencer and consequently leaking water all over the freezer and freezing over again.

Our model number is GS26HSZBC3. Also, the ice despencer is not working. Its is just putting water into the ice despencer and down the back of the despencer causing the freezer to ice over again.

The ice maker water dispense is control by the electronic control which actually keep the water solenoid valve open for about 10 seconds and the shut it off. Now from your description it seems that the valve it malfunction. This is a frequent problem with the valve gathering dirt which is in the water and the moving pillar and spring is either stuck open that is why you have the water leaking in the freezer or sometimes it stuck closed.

So you need to reached the valve in the back side of the fridge in the compressor area and find the water and ice water solenoid ( is a double valve) part F55, VALVE-WATER - Note: Due to manufacturer changes part received may appear different than what is shown in the photo but is a factory replacement.
Part Number: AP4298908 made by FRIGIDAIRE

    And replace it.

Just to hundred percent that is only the solenoid have a visual check to the ice maker and see if there any other part that might be crack or broke, there is just a very small possibility after all ice around it since their moving part in the ice maker this sometimes can break a part of the ice maker so you can combine the order of the part and replace it also.

The above part and all the other parts of your fridge can be found in the following link

Kenmore 52552100 Side by Side ice in bottom of freezer

I had the same problem. And after some research I went at it yesterday. I unplugged the refrigerator and removed the bottom two racks in the freezer. The tray at the bottom of the defrost assembly was caked with ice. I didn't know where the drain plug was. I started melting the ice using a hair dryer. I also carefully broke up the ice using a knife. After the ice was removed I could locate the drain hole. I used a copper wire shaped like an "L" and tried chipping away at it with no luck. I then poured a 1/3 of a cup of very hot water in the tray and let it sit. After a few minutes I used the hair drier again and soaked up the water with a paper towel. I added another 1/3 cup of hot water. I noticed the ice in the drain hole was beginning to melt and used the wire again. Finally, I got my compressed air gun and blew out the hole. I wanted to just blow the water out of there but it must have shot the ice out into the evaporator tray. I poured more hot water in the tray and it disappeared immediately into the evaporator tray (checked the tray and could see water). I then blew out the hole with compressed air and dried the area with the hair drier. Plugged in the refrigerator, replaced the baskets and was done. Whole thing took 30-45 minutes. No idea why it clogged up in the first place but if it happens again I should be able to cut 10 minutes off the time.

Whirpool Gold Refrigerator Ice Maker not making ice

Hi: It is a separate line. If the tube to the ice maker was not clogged with ice itself that is not your problem. The ice maker is thermally proctected and will not make ice unless the freezer is actually at zero degrees F. Not just frozen. The plastics in a freezer will be soft when warm even easily melt, but be hard when at operating temps. Just try setting your freezer colder to see if it kicks in. Give it at least 24 hrs. Don't do the human nature thing and open it every hour to see if it makes ice. You will just dump the cold air out. Listen for the ice to dump into the tray. I hope this helps, Jeff

Fridge and freezer not getting cold

  • You have 2 fans Make sure your top fan is working ,its located inside the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked. With out a fan you have no circulation .Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open 12 to 24 hrs this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.

Water Dripping Inside

Sounds like a blocked defrost drain. By "American" I presume you mean side-by-side.
I had a similar problem with a freezer-on-top style Samsung. The solution to that was to defrost the freezer, remove the false backing plate in the freezer (required removal of the ice cube tray. the panel just pops out with a bit of pulling). The drain hole beneath the freezer coils was blocked with ice. This drain passes down into the fridge and then out the back of the fridge into the evaporation pan next to the motor. There is a collector pan under the freezer coils, this and the drain hole were filled with ice. When the freezer goes into its self-defrost cycle the water collects here and then overflows into the fridge.
I removed the ice with hot water/vinegar mixture (so it doesn't re-freeze immediately) and simultaneosuly used a bit of chiselling with a screwdriver to clear the drain plug. I did this from inside the fridge working up the drain hole into the freezer. The whole job took about an hour.

Water wont flow into LG LX259602b ice maker

You may have a bad water valve.  The valve has 2 sections, one for the water dispenser and the other for the ice maker.  Check those connections in the back of the refrigerator.  If everything is ok, replace the water valve.
