Question about Behringer EUROPOWER EP2500 Amplifier

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Behringer EuroPower 2500 power amp that has done very little work, maybe 10 hours total at half capacity through 8 ohm speaker box. (It has never been pushed to anywhere near it's limit.) It was working fine and I put it away for about 18 months without switching it on at all. I recently tried it out again (after the 18 month break) and it has nowhere near the power (according to my ear sound level monitor) that it used to. Before I have it checked by a technician can you point me/him in the right direction as to what the issue might be? Thanks in advance, Greg (Australia)

Hello
Due to long time in storage, its internal plugin wire sockets may have rusted or loose contacted. You just open the set, and pull out the pluged in connection inside, one by one and reset it to the same slots, or pins. I think this may resolve your problem.

Behringer pmp4000 keeps dropping an ouput channel while playing live!

The PMP has an electronic overload protection. If you overload one or the other of the outputs, it trips the protector and you have to cycle the power off for a bit to reset it. You haven't mentioned what speakers you have. Be aware that the impedance can be no lower than 4 ohms on either channel. In addition, I have seen some particular speakers that have transformer attentuators in them that this amp is NOT happy driving. You could not attach more than two 8 ohm speakers to each of the outputs without tripping the protector.

I have two JBL MRX 515 speakers at 8 ohnms and two behringer bins at 300 watts 4 ohms running off a behringer EP4000 amp, would this be ok ? and not casue any damage to the speakers

http://www.raltron.com/cust/tools/parallel_resistance.asp

It's ohm's law, dude. 1/a + 1/b = 1/total. One each 8- and 4-ohm speaker in parallel per channel would be 2.7 ohms (nominal). So it will work in theory.

How you manage the potential difference in volume between dissimilar speakers on the same amp channel is a mystery.

Distortion will kill any speaker, not power. Stay within the amp's usable range.

What is the bridge amp setting mean on the pmp6000?

In bridged mode, both sides are used to drive the same speaker. One side is phase inverted relative to the other so the two sides add their voltage. It is important to note that you cannot go below 8 ohm speaker in this mode. The amps can generate about 60volts peak or about 43 volts RMS. So the net will be about 86 volts between the two sides. With 86 volts on 8 ohms you can get about 925 Watts max... yeah it is not the claimed 1200, but it is a lot closer than the shop vacuums claiming 4Hp when running on 120 volts... Those are peak values that have LITTLE to do with actual true values.

You can't run stereo in this mode because BOTH sides are used as a single power source. The PAN controls will have little effect as the system is in monaural mode.

I have five pairs of 8 ohms speakers which i want to connect in serries. what wattage will you advice ?

Why? Amps are designed for specific loads, typically 8-ohms. I'm sure you could arrange several speakers in such a way as to present as close to, say, 8-ohms as possible.

New to the mixer world. i have a dicontinued pmp5000. can't get the bridge mode to work

You require a special cable with the Speakon copnnector wired a special way. Refer to your user manual for the correct pin connections to use bridged mode and then put the slide switch in the position closest to the effects display.

Refer to figure 4.6 on page 10 and figure 4.7 showing the connection for bridge mode.

NOTE: you cannot go below 8 ohm speaker on the bridge mode... that USUALLY means a singl speaker of 8 ohms... you CANNOT parallel two 8 ohm speakers.

The single speaker cable will plug into the "B" output connector. Remember bothe the barrel and the tip of the connector if using 1/4 inch plugs is HOT and grounding either inadvertently will fry the amp.

Been looking everywhere for this... i just hooked up my PMP6000 to my brand new JBL EON's 305 (non-active), stereo (one cable for A and B) using Speaking to 1/4" cable. My output level was also VERY...

The JBL EON 305's are 8 ohm speakers. The PMP5000 wi;; produce 400 Watts per side into a 4 ohm load (600 Watts peak). Into your 8 ohm speakers, the peak current will be halved while the voltage remains the same so you ACTUAL power per side is 200 Watts. It is hard to know how much you expect to get out of the amp. This power would fill a venue of at least 2000 sq ft. If you need more sound, try borrowing another 8 ohm speaker for each side and parallel them with the EON's as a test. That will double the power and add 3 Db more of sound. Your main slider should be around unity typically. This amp is a class D switching type (very efficient) and runs on +/- 70 volt rails. giving about 45 volts RMS output. At 4 ohms, this is just over 10 amps giving 450 Watts... at 8 ohms this is around 5 amps or 225 Watts.

Please read my tip on Fixya about the ground hazard of channel A when using 1/4 inch cables out of the PMP units... essentially the BARREL of the connector from channel "A" is the HOT,... NOT the tip of the PLUG. Ground the barrel IN ANY WAY AND YOU FRY CHANNEL "A" AMP !!!

I have troubles with a to little speakersound i have checked the fuse and its okay its a new one for me this pmp5000 can you tell me i have 1000 watt speakers do they not play loud with this

These can develop around 500 Wattts or so into speakerss that are 4 ohm.

If your speakers are 8 ohm the max power to each is around 250 Watts.

The efficiency of your speakers may reduce the loudness . The power rating of your speakers really has nothing to do with the loudness, only the power that can safely be sent to the speaker.

Two 4-OHM DVC AND two 4-ohm

your amp is stable at 2ohm in stereo mode . you can wire them in series or parallel. series you add up the ohms . parallel you use this (R1+R2)divided by(R1xR2)=total resistance this figures two speakers at a time to add more speakers after total repeat formula as long as you don't go below min load you are fine . in your case all speakers in parallel you would be running 0 ohms bad . in series you would be running 16 ohms stable but not even half the power of your amp. if you hook up two in parallel and two in series on one channel you are running 1.6 ohms still not stable. If i was u I would hook up two 4ohm speakers in parallel on one channel and two in parallel on the other given you a stable 2ohm per channel.
total power output per channel 1200w
