Question about Canon PowerShot SD800 IS / IXUS 850 IS Digital Camera
The battery is probably just bad. There is enough energy in these batterys that if there is a short you will definitely see it spark or smoke or even catch fire.
If you use the batterys till they are drained before charging, or if they are a few years old then the batteries are not going to be able to hold that much of a charge anymore. The camera might only start then shut off or take one or two pictures and be dead. That is typical of old batteries needing replacement. If you charge your batteries then take them and the camera to a camera shop and ask if they would check. they should be able ot put a battery into the camera or try your batteries in another camera so you can see what is wrong.
