When I use the wheel or foot petal my machine wont go up and down any more

your machine is most likely "gummy". when sewing machines sit the oils get sticky, particularly in entry level machines as they use cheaper oil. there could also be some tangled threads and lint that are adding to the problem. if your machine was shipped or dropped something may have been bent or broken out of alignment. at best, your machien needs a labor intensive process of dissassembly cleaning and re-lubricating. i would there is probably not a quick fix. i would recommend taking it to a sewing machine repair shop. call ahead to make sure they give free estimates. you may have to leave it for a time but if they charge for estimates then they're not a good shop. i am a sewing mechanic of 20 yrs

first, check the bobbin to see if it has sufficient amount of thread. Check that the needle is threaded and not broken and that the machine is threaded correctly. Luck

How do you oil this machine?

HI
Most singer sewing machines can be oiled in the same way. I couldn't find a diagram for your specific machine, but there are lots of diagrams for oiling sewing machines on the repair pages of www.sewusa.com
This one might be similar to your machien, hope it helps!

I have an old Kenmore Model 15612. It is suddenly stitching unevenly (length) with regular foot, and it won't stitch at all with a zipper foot. What could be the problem? When I last used it, everything...

Clean your machine and oil it. It might just be dirty. I have teh same machine. Also, after that, if teh needle is old it may be dull. This machien can get finicky if the needles are not sharp.

Make sure teh pressure knob at teh top was not released.

Janome straight stitch loose

I don't know if this is the right answer for any of you, but thought I'd put my 2 cents worth in. Often this can be the bobbin in backwards. It needs to unwind a certain way depending on the machine. I've heard a phrase for this: Mind your p's and q's which means some wind off to the right like a q, others to the left like a p. Mine has to unwind one way then be slipped backwards into a little slot or it does that loose bottom thread looping and bunching someone here mentioned. It seems everytime I get that problem I rethread the top thread 100 times before it clicks again and I remember it could be the bobbin thread. Either your manual will tell you the correct way, or you could experiment and try one or the other. Once you figure out whether you're a p or a q, mark it on your machien somewhere to remind yourself.

Good Luck and Happy Sewing!
