The flashdrive will not let me create new folders or transfer data to it. The memory is only half full. The error message reads "the directory or file cannot be created".

I got the same problem as do many others. I already scanned for a virus and had none. There's got to be a better solution.

scan the drive with an updated virus scaner.

if it is working then why need to reformat?

try to back up your files first before you reformat it, just copy paste all the imporatnt data to a folder on your computer, after that you can now reformat your flash drive

Sometimes these things get confused. try moving everything to a folder on your machine then, use the SanDisk tool to format the flash drive and move everything back.

Some USB drives have this issue when you have too many folders on the drive. It doesn't have to be even close to filling up the drive, just too many. Try moving some of your folders on the drive to an already existing folder, then try to create a new folder after you've cut down the number of folders on the root of the drive.

SanDisk Cruzer storage

Check the format. Make sure it's compatable with the operating system. Also check the size of your documents folder. If they are compatable, maybe there is something wrong with the flash drive.
