If, it is still under warranty take it in for service. If, it is not call Singer at 1-800-4singer customer service and ask why it would do that because it sounds like an electrical problem with it sewing on its own. Good luck, I hope that you do not have to pay anything.

I just purchased a Bernina 950 and it was working great got it home and it will not catch bobbin thread . Any ideas ?

Hmm, not sure. Usually, not picking up the bobbin thread is a timing issue but if nothing has happened to the machine since it was tested.

Might try completely rethreading or try a different thread. Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread.

Won't catch the bobbin thread everytime. skips. I have retreaded everything several times, reajusted tension, and even the presser foot tension.

Install a brand new needle.

Check the upper tension: Remove the thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. This ensures the thread is seated properly in the tension disk. Make sure the bobbin case is threaded properly.

If still missing the bobbin thread, it probably has a needle/hook timing issue.

The cotton jam underneath the garment. How does it come about doing it ? How do i fix this on the Compal Opus machine

First thing I would try is to try to shift the handwheel on the right carefully to see if it would loosen up a little. Next thing would be to get to the screws holding down the needle plate and remove them. Remove the presser foot and the needle from it's clamp. Then slowly try to work the whole thing loose. If you can expose thread underneath the needle plate cut all that you see and try not to cut into the garment. With a little care you should be able to work it loose and out. Don't force anything if you can help it. Particularly the hook surrounding the bobbin case. Too much force and it might be shifted out of time and won't sew right once you get it all clear. good luck.

The whole problem may have started from improper threading or upper tension not operational or too loose. Make sure when you rethread that the upper tension is engaged when the presser foot is lowered and loose when the presser foot is raised. Also when you have the needle plate off that the bobbin case is in the proper position so that it can't turn too much only a very little. Just Enough so that the thread can make its way around without catching.

I made a test buttonhole that came out perfectly, but several subsequent attempts have resulted in a buttonhole that is only about 1/4 of an inch. I have rethreaded, removed and replaced the buttonholer,...

Are you sure that you are starting each button hole with the buttonhole slider foot back at the front? I know that they are usually spring loaded but is possible that yours isn't returning fully to the starting position.

Also, it is important to prepare the test buttonhole on a fabric sample identical to the garment you will be buttonholing, ie two layers with interfacing between.

I am trying to think what else could be causing this to happen for you. Are you going through the process where you stitch out the first buttonhole, then save this length and then repeat it multiple times. Or using the button in the back of the foot to provide the size of the buttonhole where there is a buttonhole trigger you slide down in place near the pressure foot.

If you have tried and followed the manual precisely and still arent getting a correct buttonhole out of the machine, then perhaps consider taking it to your local dealer and asking them to watch you go through the process and see if they can spot the problem; this should help identify if it is a machine problem or something you've missed in the process.

Good luck, hope you resolve it.

I just got this machine. I opened it, threaded it according to the instructions. When I started to sew it got hung up and wouldnt budge. I rethreaded everything, smoothed out my material and tried...

Something is not right with your threading or your thread. Insert a new needle, totally rethread. Now once you think that you have it threaded right, put your presser foot up, pull on both threads, it should feed smoothly, now lower the presser foot, pull the thread again, it should barely move. This usually seats the thread in the tension discs. Make sure that your thread is not old thread, because it breaks easily and causes grief. Hold your threads when you first start out for a few stitches, if you are sewing on thin material, use a stabilizer. If, you still have problems, take the machine back and get one that has the dvd with it. Good luck

Singer 4210 does not work: it is plugged in, the light is on, but when pressing the pedal nothing happens.

Make sure that the foot pedal is correctly inserted and that you have selected a stitch pattern. Also, recheck your threading, totally rethread if needed, bobbin also

Thread tangles around shuttle

Either the thread is not in the take up lever or it is not in the tension. Rethread the machine. Raise the presser foot and pull on the thread between the tension and take up. It should be loose. Lower the presser foot, pull on the thread between the tension and take up lever. It should be tighter. Make sure the thread is in the slot of the take up lever and pulled to the front of the lever.
