How can I remove horizontal bands across prints of pictures

Sometimes you are just printing with the wrong paper setting. Instead of just clicking on the small printer picture icon in your toolbar to print, go to "FILE" then scroll down to "print", that will bring up the grey printer text box in the middle of your screen. In the "advanced" settings you will find that you can input many, many, different types of printer paper types to coordinate with the actual paper you are using. The printer will then adapt its feeder to accommodate the specific paper.
So, lets say you aren't using Epson photo paper, but you are using HP photo paper, you need to specify that and then the print might produce a better quality image.

Printer is printing photos with visible horizontal lines

If the inks in those cartridge are still enough for print, you need to clean the head. For this follow me :
1. From the Printing Preference window (the window where you used to set paper type, paper size .....) choose the Maintenance tab.
2. On that Tab, you will see some tools, click on the CLEANING button, load a paper in the printer, after cleaning the printer will print some patterns, repeat till you satisfied with.
3. If the problem persist, try DEEP CLEANING.
4. Also perform a PRINT HEAD ALIGNMENT by following the onscreen instructions.

This evening I bought a new HP Photosmart C4780 printer. I am trying to print photos now and the photos are being printed with small vertical lines across the whole photo. How do I get rid of them?

> I bought a new printer

Take it back, and get one that does work correctly.

> VERTICAL lines ACROSS the whole photo

Hold the paper in "portrait" mode, not "landscape" mode.
Are the lines HORIZONTALLY-ACROSS the paper,
or VERTICALLY-DOWN the paper?

If those lines are WHITE and HORIZONTAL,
then some of the many ink-jets inside the print-head are *CLOGGED*.
Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle" to try to unclog it.
Or, exercise the WARRANTY, and get it replaced.

My prints are red with lines Why

Cleaning an ink-jet printer can solve minor problems, maintain print quality, and prolong periods between professional cleanings. Thin white lines across printouts indicate that the ink nozzles need to be cleaned.
  1. p 1 Collect the supplies you need: a soft cloth and cleaning fluid made for plastic. (Water is fine in most cases.)
  2. Step 2 Check the printer manual. If the manufacturer has provided specific instructions, follow them.
  3. Step 3 Turn off the printer.
  4. Step 4 Dampen the cloth with water or cleaning fluid.
  5. Step 5 Wipe the outside of the printer, making sure that no fluid gets inside.
  6. Cleaning Cartridges or Ink Nozzles
  7. Step 1 Use the cleaning buttons on your printer if it has them.
  8. Step 2 Initiate cleaning through the printer software.
  9. Step 3 Open the printer software by double-clicking on a printer icon or opening a document and then selecting Print from the File menu.
  10. Step 4 Click a button labeled Options, Troubleshooting, Clean Print Cartridges, Toolbox, Printer Utilities or something similar. (This varies by manufacturer.)
  11. Step 5 Click a button labeled Head Cleaning, Run Nozzle Check, Clean Print Cartridges or something similar to begin the process.
  12. Step 6 Follow the instructions on your screen.
  13. Step 7 Repeat the cleaning process if the results aren't satisfactory.
  14. Step 8 Go to your printer manufacturer's Web site for detailed instructions on manual cartridge cleaning and interior cleaning.

Nozzle check is fine? I am not sure. Check again. There is transverse and vertical lines. Is it perfect? Turn off printer, move head to center, put wet tissue with hot water at head cleaning mech. (pad). move head to parking position, wait for 15 minutes, repeat for 3 times. Check nozzle.

Dark vertical lines on printed photos 18cm apart

Remove the cartridge and put it back in. If same issue persists, try to do head cleaning and nozzle checks simultaneously from the computer.

Start -> Control Panel -> Printers & Faxes (Windows XP) / Printers (Windows Vista) -> Printer Icon (right click) -> Printing Preferences -> Maintenance

You should be able to see nozzle check, click it and follow the prompt. Line patterns that corresponds to the colors of the ink cartridges would be printed. If breaks on those patterns appears, continue with head cleaning. Try to do this about 3 times until all patterns are complete.
