im having the same problem as many, my ps3 turn on to the system update page and never completes the update process. it will usually stop at 45% with this error message 8002f14e

  • Anonymous Sep 26, 2008

same happening with me cant find a solution that works so far sony dont know what it is

  • Anonymous Oct 19, 2008

Same problem, but what the posters are not getting is that you are stuck in a never ending "trying to install update" process and it never completes. You have no choice to get to anywhere but trying to install update and update failed seek tech service. It is not downloading update it is a install update failure two totally different monsters. I wish is was a downloading problem.

Update makes it to 68 percent then pops up this error! Over and over again. My 400+ dollar system is now a pretty black piece of plastic. Makes me sick. Blaaaaaahhhh.

I tried the "remove the HDD" bit, but when the screen goes blank for 30 seconds, it doesn't give a message that the HDD needs to be reforammted, it just shuts down. So it's a No Go on that one. I even tried putting in a different HDD, to see if it would let me format it and start over, but that doesn't work either.

  • wonsch May 19, 2009

that info doesnt work buddy....the system doesnt even let me press any buttons on my controller..just keeps saying failed....so selecting system update from the menu is impossible

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2014

I managed to figure out how to fix this.
-Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in.
-Whenthe update begins, slide your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again. Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for aabout 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your Hard Drive needs to be reformatted. Now, slide your HDD into place again, and continue with the format. You will lose all your saved data, but your console will work again.
Kudos!

If calling Sony and getting it replaced is out of the question. Then get a USB thumb drive or memory stick. Follow the download directions here http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3/pc_update.html#update_PC

You may have to do this a couple times, but it should work. I have brought 18 PS3 systems back to life because of this.

Man I tried everything from the hdd to the flash drive stick to popping the hard drive out after it starts and leaving the flash drive in thought I had it but when it got to 99% it just got stuck there. Did each over and over like everyone says to do but still nothing so now I have a big heavy paper weight and lucky me I missed the one year warranty by a couple of weeks and Sony was so nice to say sorry theres nothing we can do. I guess they feel $400 is chump change

If you have a 2.50+ version, you can repair your ps3.

connect your HDD to your pc, then initialize it.

Download your current firmware version in a usb key.

connect your HDD to your ps3

go to recovery mode. choose option 6: system update.

try to install your firmware -> error 8002F14E.

connect your HDD to your pc, initialize it.

The PS3 should format your HDD, and would start.

(but the problem is that I cannot update my ps3...)

Everytime I turn on the ps3 it start installing an update it stop and display error 8002F14E and my system is fresh out of the box 2-8-2011

Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in.
(THE NEXT STEP YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SAVED DATA)

When the update begins, pull your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again.
Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for about 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your Hard Drive needs to be reformatted.
REPLACE YOUR HDD into PS3 - (make sure your controller is PLUGGED IN) and press the white PS3 button on the controller.
It will then ask you to either press start and select at same time OR white PS3 Button - PRESS START and SELECT. Do not agree to user agreements!! Simply hit cancel and it will kick back to the PS3 start up screen.
Then try to figure out if you have a bad blu ray or bad blue cable before you update again

Try to download the update from a pc to a memory card or usb flash drive. Then plug it in to your ps3 and update via memory card.

When Im updating my ps3 all of sudden the updating process stop and this message shown >> "error occured during update operation. contact tech support for assistnce (8002F14E)" << everytime I turn it on it...

There's nothing you can do.

You'll have to contact Sony @ 1-800-345-SONY

The only way you could potentially fix it is with a nam flasher and a PS3 mod chip.

It's ONLY for advanced users though.
