Gateway MT6840 unexpectedly shut down and wouldn't

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Not getting deteected

Speakers do not get detected, they only produce sound when you play any. Reboot the PC or laptop and on shutting down and startup Windows plays its own sound. That should come through these speakers. Now go to the Sound option by clicking open the Volume icon in the system tray and check and make sure that nothing is muted by Windows. And listen to your favorite music as these are good quality speakers.

It wont shut down it always reboots

Please try to work through the steps outlined in this link and see if you can resolve this error. If you don't have luck with that, follow the steps in this tutorial to update your drivers, visit windows update and see if there are hardware updates offered for your system, and if none of that works consider the possibility that you have malware installed on your system and go here to install and run an updated scan of your computer to detect and remove possible infections that your AV has not detected.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

My computer won't shut down it just keeps restarting

The most common shut down problem is that the system will reboot rather than shutting down. In most cases, the reboot is triggered because Windows XP is designed to reboot after a critical failure. To stop windows from rebooting in case of a failure, you need to take the following steps:
Right click on My Computer, Select Properties, Click on advance tab, Click on Settings under Startup and Recovery, Uncheck the option Automatically Restart under System failure, Click Ok twice and try to shutdown the pc. If it shows any error code then let me know

Window shut down automatically and restart, then shut down again... It happened after a window update yesterday lunch time.

Recovery SettingsOne of the things that is quite different about Windows XP compared to Windows 9x (9x is shorthand for Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me in all their various versions), is that one can control how it responds to certain critical errors—those that cause the infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error occurs. If that fatal error only occurs when you're shutting down, the system reboots automatically.
If you haven't changed any of the system failure settings, you should be able to see the error by looking in the Event Log. But a better long-term solution is to turn off the automatic reboot so you can actually see the error when it happens—chances are it will tell you enough about itself to let you troubleshoot further. To change the recovery settings to disable automatic rebooting:
1.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.
Click the Advanced tab.
3.
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4.
Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
5.
Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
Now when you go to shut down and a fatal error occurs, you'll at least see it and it won't cause an automatic reboot. You still have to sort out what's causing the problem, but that gets us to the next section quite nicely.

Computer reboots after I shut down

Hi there...
MMMMMmmmmmmmm can you be more specific ? has it recently started to do this or has it done this since you purchased the computer ? Are you trying to shut it down from the windows shutdown menu or are you pressing the power button to let windows shut it down ?? I Need more information before I can help you work out whats going on with your computer ...If its only just started to happen you may have a virus or a trojan infecting your system or your bios has become corrupted. The windows registry may have become corrupted or your power supply is faulty...the problems that could cause this are numerous , please be more specific about how you are shutting the computer down..
