I have exactly the same error message as described above. In my case I have 500GB SimpleTech External Hard Drive. I have video/music/document files on this hard drive. I didn't drop it or shake it, it simply does not want to be recognized on my PC or laptop. Whenever I plug it in, my PC/Laptop does an 'Auto Search' for 5-8 seconds, and then displays the message: 'error performing inpage operation'. I have spent at least 2 hours trying to make my PC/Laptop recognize the drive. I simply don't know what the cause is. If anyone knows how to solve this issue please let me know. Any advise is greatly valued. Thanx

I've just fixed the problem of error performing the inpage operation by using old DOS command CHKDSK <driveletter> /F. And, i'm satisfied with the MS-DOS command.

Compatability error in how each control panel item is recognized. check pin settings on back of HD. you failed to mention if USB operation, or internal, or SATa setup.

Access denied, error performing inpage operation

Click Start, Click RUN and type cmd and Enter. You'll be in command window - then type chkdsk [drive:] /F (such as - "chkdsk e: /F") which should perform a repair. It will probably require a restart. Do not touch the keyboard during restart.

HDD NOT WORKING PERFECTLY

I'm confused. Is the maxtor drive 250GB? Have you partition it to 30GB? Or is it that the computer only reads 30GB instead of 250GB? Does this drive have Windows on it? Also you might want to check your BIOS (Motherboard input/output system) by pressing Del key or F12 and see if this drive is the startup Drive. If you don't have Windows on this drive, make sure it is NOT the startup drive. Hope this helps.

My wd hdd fell from my desk, and a few minutes after it dropped i tried it on my compaq laptop and it worked after restarting the laptop, i tried accessing my wd hdd and it gave an error message saying...

WD offers a recovery service, unfortunately that is going to be your cheapest option and that is a long shot and expensive. What happened is the Disk Read/Write arms are no longer in alignment from the impact or have broken free. Because of the need for a clean room environment to work on a HD it is very costly to get these repaired and well out of range for most everyday users.

Windows Xp Setup Problem : "setup cannot access the disk". I have HDD: Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 80GB ATA/133 HDD.

try doing a F disk on the hard drive first then format it and make it the active drive and then try installing the xp software. if it has had another operating system say for instance windows ME it will not install on that drive without removing it. You can also go to www.maxtor.com and download their free hard drive tools to see if there is a problem that thier software can fix. the software is for free.

Accessing one of the hard disk drives

you can always try to mount the hdd using the windows disk manager. if nothing, and you want to back up your data from the drive boot up your pc with a live linux cd and attempt to mount that drive manually. If successful you can transfer your data from one drive to the other with no problems

Maxtor 80GB External HD

1. I need to know the brand name , model number , or motherboard you have

2. I need to know what operating system you are using

and when you say open , in what manor do you mean open , in what way are you attempting to open the drive and with what program , so far it looks like you may need to reinstall the computers operating system from scratch , because something is dead wrong , and it looks like a file system error , as if your computer operating system is no longer able to access files properly.

I consider your situation unresolved at this time untill you can give me more information.

I'm trying to reach guru status here in order to help people like you in a far more proper manor.

together we can solve it.

Can't open HDD drive

Hi
1. Start > Run > type in cmd then click OK to get a command prompt.
2. Type in chkdsk e: /r (replace e: with the drive letter of your external hard drive).

This won't do any harm, it will fix errors on the disk and try to recover data from bad sectors. It might not solve the problem but it's worth a try. Jyo
