Definetly try a replacement battery first. If you take your battery to a batteries plus they might even be able to test it. If you give me the make and model of the laptop I could probably locate you the replacement part numbers and prices.
Thanks,

I have an ASUS laptop which has been shutting down for the past 1 hour. It has little battery left so I have disconnected pwoer hoping it would go flat.

Asus WHAT laptop?
What is the model number? Bottom of laptop.

Two, is the laptop dirty inside?
If you have never had it cleaned, it is.

Three, "It has little battery left so I have disconnected power......."

Shouldn't have low battery power, if the thing is plugged in.

Four, have you tested the AC adapter's (Charger) output voltage?

Five, is the DC Power Jack in good condition?

[DC Power Jack (DC_IN), is the jack on the laptop that the AC adapter plugs into ]

Could be.........

A) The Battery is older than dirt........
("How old is that battery?
Lemme tell ya,.......that battery is so old that.........")

Battery needs replacing.

B) Power MOSFET's are going south for the winter, and didn't invite you, or the laptop along.

("Pssst..........let's go to the Bermuda's, but xnay on telling the laptop, or dlemaistre)

They control whether the Battery is to have a trickle charge, or full charge; OR, whether the laptop is to just run off of the AC power, and not the Battery.

(Actually the AC adapter {Charger} is a converter. Converts the AC electricity from the home, or business; into DC Voltage.
So it should be stated, ".......OR, whether the laptop is to just run off of DC power from the AC adapter)

Air is used to cool the hardware components inside the laptop.
The two hardware components that give off the most heat, is the Processor (CPU), and graphics chipset. (GPU)

When the Processor overheats it turns off. (BIOS turns it off)
This is a fail safe feature that is built-in.
Keeps the CPU (Processor) from burning up.

So the laptop could be turning off, because the Processor is turning off; due to the laptop is dirty inside.

The battery could be low on charge, because it is old; and not keeping a charge.

OR,
Power MOSFET's are bad, and battery is not being charged up.
Also no power TO motherboard of laptop, because power ends at the DC Power Jack on motherboard; and rest of motherboard isn't receiving power.

Using HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's; to explain,

http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.html

So,.......
1) Is the laptop dirty inside?

2) Is the Battery more than 2 years old?

3) Does the AC adapter (Charger) prove to be good?
Putting out the required Voltage?

4) If the DC Power Jack on laptop, is the design that has a Center Pin; does the Center Pin move around, when you try to gently move it with a tool?
(BATTERY removed)

[If you do not have access to a multimeter, an economical unit can be purchased for around $5.
I have seen them on checkout aisle racks, at major discount stores.
Auto parts stores have them, but usually higher in cost ]

The charger plugs into the laptop and charges the battery.
What is your problem with?

Hey my samsung laptop fell on the floor wen i triped over the wires and it landed were the charger puts its thing in but the charger was in a the time and now it wont stay inside it looks loose or broken...

Probably broken the nipple from the cable which goes into the laptop, and starts it charging. pull it out and inspect the nipple on the charger see for any breakages, if it has snapped etc then it will require a new charger.
If it hasn't then it will be a broken inside the laptop, best thing you can do is strip the laptop and have a look or take it to your local computer repair shop, and it will be sorted...its a common problem with laptops the charging damage.

Thanks.

Dear Sir/Madam, I bought a Asus Netbook (ASUS 1201N) last month. I re-charge my netbook about 6-8 times. I always charge my netbook more than 8 hours like the point out in the user guide. Now, I have a...

Yes you can use it with half charged battery.
Sounds like you conditioned the battery when new which is a good thing. It will keep your battery in good shape now that it has been conditioned correctly as per your user manual.
Just remember that leaving your battery charging for extended periods of time will reduce its lifespan. When it says the battery is charged take it off the charger.

Thbattery does not charge.I have installed a new

Hi,
you can try 2 things
1st option
If you get this message that "Plugging, Not charging", don't worry. it may be cause inconvenient removing your battery, well:
1- remove your battery
2- directly connect AC adapter
3- restart or on your laptop
4- after loading windows, put the battery
enjoy...
if it not work, you must flash your BIOS or upgrade to new version can find from your manufacturer company website.

2nd option
Take battery out and use pencil erases to gently clean the contacts. Also clean contacts on laptop battery box.
Sometimes the contacts oxidize.
Then put back in and see if it charges.

Stuck on asus logo on startup??

Same problem here with my wife's Asus laptop. Called Asus and they said to unplug charger, remove the battery in the back, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then, replace battery, then charger, then press the power button and wait for startup. First time it got stuck at the windows loading bar screen for like 5 min. which is abnormal. Did a hard power down (press and hold power button til it shuts off) then restarted again. That time it worked and all is well so far. Could have been due to a static charge as she was on our couch with our dog backing up movies so charge might have entered through the CD/DVD drive opening. (?) Not sure, but if you are sitting on a static-prone couch with your laptop its probably best to sit on top of a bounce sheet.

Supreme FX II Won't work Ok, let's start from the top- Bought an ASUS Maximus II Formula mobo off of NewEgg. Open box version, since I'm an idiot. That was my first mistake obviously. So, naturally, it doesn't come with ANY of the parts it's supposed to- LCD Poster, Supreme X-FI II, nothing. yay. Anyways, I finally tracked down a sound card (the X-Fi that was actually supposed to come with the motherboard). Installed it- nothing. Didn't show up in device manager, nothing at all. So, I swapped PCI-E slots, and still nothing. (PCI-E x1). So here I am, mad that I bought a sound card from some guy that didn't work. Well, I happened to come across another one, same exact card. So I tried it, all happy and everything, as I KNEW this one worked. NOTHING. Updated the BIOS- nothing. Changed a few settings, such as turning off PnP OS, tried a couple other small things- nothing.,... I'm beginning to think that the mobo has bad PCI-E x1 slots- all other slots work though. Is there any other way they could possibly be disabled by something? Please give some ideas to try, including the simple ones- I'd like to try to solve, as the mobo did cost a good bit. System Specs: Vista Ultimate, XP Pro, 7 RC (tri-boot) (card does not show up in ANY OS) - All have updates. 4Gb DDR2 1066 (OCZ) Intel 3.0 Ghz E8400 CPU Nvidia 9500 GT 1Tb total drive space. Currently having to use a POS Soundblaster Audigy (original) To be honest, I could care less about the X-FI. I just want my FP audio to work. But the mobo has no headers- the FPAUD header is on the sound card. But, the X-FI would be a nice upgrade.... Please help- I can't afford a new mobo right now. Like I said, even give me simple solutions- sometimes we just skip the easy stuff without realizing it lol And you don't have to use laymans terms with me- I repair PC's for a living lol. Update- Tried placing sound card in x16 slot- lit up (which it did before), but still not showing up in device manager. Tried placing it in same slot my video card was in (since I know that slot works) - nothing. So, now we know its not a faulty slot. Tried disabling PCIE Spread Spectrum, CPU Spread Spectrum. Nothing. Tried both cards in all 4 PCI E slots - nothing still... Also removed Audigy while doing this. So- we know the card works, as I saw it work earlier on a different PC. We know the slots on the mobo are fine. I've tried everything in the BIOS I could think of. When I try to install the drivers- says no supported device found. Update- Took both cards up to work. Plugged into one of our shop machines- still nothing. HOWEVER. The second card that I had come across, was out of a customers machine- and of course, it works in his with no problem. So I know the card is good. Yet, it won't install on ANY other machine.
