Mikechamb606,

A model number would have helped me diagnose your unit but because you say that you have white dots on the screen, and the unit is only 3 years old, I will go with what I believe your problem is. I am assuming that you do not have a CRT projection unit. I believe you have an lcd projection tv which is starting to have TFT panel failures. As they age they lose more and more pixels which show up as white dots. The only cure for this is a new optical engine. Cost could be on the order of $350 US. The replacement is not that difficult and can be done using my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4251975-replace_dlp_light_engine which will walk you through the process as well as link you to the best place to get the parts you need.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the excellent rating. Great ratings keep experts helping everyone solve their problems. Thank you.

    mikechamb606,

If you are going to get a new television set here is some advice to help you.

Only buy the name brands such as Sony (the best and worth every cent), Panasonic, RCA, Toshiba or other major brands. I mean it, do not buy the no name cheap units thinking you will save money. It isn't going to happen. By the way, Vizio is in the junk category.

Honestly though, they all have problems because 1) they are made in China and 2) lead was taken out of solder some years back making it brittle and melt at a higher tempreture. This partially destroys components before they leave the factory and then they fail in short order after you own the TV.

As far as the best type unit to purchase. I would not buy a plasma. Flatscreen LCDs may or may not be reliable, it's the luck of the draw. DLP projectors seem to be the most reliable if they are name brand but still they can have issues. That's where the next part comes in.

I would recommend an extended warranty for when the unit implodes, as you know it will. I never recommended extended warranties before because they were a waste of money ten years ago, but with this junk they are a neccesity to save your bank account.

I hope this helps ease the pain.

Thanks for using FixYa and the great rating.

My Samsung 67" has white

I have the same problem on my 42" Samsung. It started as one dot now there are six. The TV repair shop told me they can sometimes fix it by adjsuting the voltages. If not it is the DMD board. I called Samsung on Jan. 6/11. They told me that as of Dec. 31/10 they would no longer repair the sets for free.

Own a Samsung DLP TV 42 inch and white dots have

The random whit dots you are seeing is more than not the DMD or million little mirrors board. The white spots represent some of the mirrors that are sticking in the on position. In that case they are always reflecting white light from the lamp. I don't concider the DMD board a do it yourself repair since on the older DLP set it requires mechanical alignment as well. The best thing to do is contact a techincian and see what they might charge to repair the TV for you. Please take a few moments to rate my answer...Thanks..

Samsung dlp white dot

If the white dot is on every picture and every input and stays there for a sec. after you press the power button to turn off the tv then suspect a stuck mirror in the DMD.

Green dot in middile of my screen

The green dot in the center sounds like a burn mark on one or more of the picture tubes inside the set, and the curved lines are telling me that you have a problem in the convergence circuits. The blue haze around everything white tells me you either have a lot of dust build up on the lens over the CRTs, or your picture tube(s) are very weak. If this set is over about 12 years old, I would replace it. I doubt if you will be able to get the green dot out of the picture without changing the tubes which would be VERY expensive.
