It is a computer-virus that masquerades as an anti-virus product.
If you used your credit-card to pay for it, call your credit-card company, because you have been DUPED.

Think point security screen comes up and I cant get access to the internet. how do I fix this?

This a virus! If you don't have important files better to revert it back to factory settings. When the system restore option is still accessible you can try this as a quickfix
If you're a computer savvy person try deleting these files and entries, else call IBM Thinkpad software support: %UserProfile%\Application Data\hotfix.exe %UserProfile%\Application Data\thinkpoint.exe

Remove the following associated registry entries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PAV HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "thinkpoint" HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon "Shell" = "%Documents and Settings%\[UserName]\Application Data\hotfix.exe"

Can you tell me how to locate a virus in my toshiba which does not have protection???? When internet explorer or task manager is clicked a window pops up saying they were launched but had to be shut down...

Step 1. Stop ThinkPoint process

Once Windows loaded you will see a window similar to the one below.
ThinkPoint screen

Now press CTRL + ALT + DEL. It will open Windows Task manager. Select hotfix.exeprocess as shown in the screen below.
Windows Task manager

Click "End Process" button. It will close ThinkPoint.

Now click File, New Task. Type explorer and press Enter. It will back the Start button and task bar.

Step 2. Remove ThinkPoint associated malware

Download MalwareBytes Anti-malware (MBAM). Close all programs and Windows on your computer.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, keep following the prompts in order to continue with the installation process. Do not make any changes to default settings and when the program has finished installing, make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Once the program has loaded you will see window similar to the one below.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Window

Select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan, it will start scanning your computer forThinkPoint infection. This procedure can take some time, so please be patient.

When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. You will see a list of infected items similar as shown below. Note: list of infected items may be different than what is shown in the image below.
Malwarebytes Anti-malware, list of infected items

Make sure all entries have a checkmark at their far left and click "Remove Selected" button to remove ThinkPoint. MalwareBytes Anti-malware will now remove all of associated ThinkPoint files and registry keys and add them to the programs' quarantine. When MalwareBytes Anti-malware has finished removing the infection, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.

ThinkPoint removal notes

Note 1: if you can not download, install, run or update Malwarebytes Anti-malware, then follow the steps: Malwarebytes won`t install, run or update - How to fix it.

Note 2: download and install some antivirus softare ex. Microsoft Security Essentials for free. And watch your clicker from now on!!!!

How can get rid from Thinkpoint

A "Thinkpoint" is a computer-virus. On a virus-free computer, Google-search for 'remove thinkpoint'
to get some good advice.

Or, follow best practises, which state that you can never remove 100% of a computer virus.

So, disconnect the old disk-drive, and purchase a new disk-drive.
Install Windows onto the new disk-drive.
Install anti-virus software on the new disk-drive.
Connect the old disk-drive as a "slave" device.
Copy all your data files from "old" to "new".
Use the anti-virus software to scan the "old" disk-drive.
Completely "wipe" the old disk-drive, and then use it as a "backup" drive,
e.g., once a day/week/fortnight, copy everything from your 'My Documents' folder to that "old" drive.

Buy a new disk-drive (your current disk-drive probably is a few years old, and probably the warranty on the disk-drive has expired. So, it's good "preventative maintenance" to replace it before it "dies".)

Disconnect the old disk-drive.
Connect the new disk-drive.
Re-install Windows.
Re-install anti-virus software (or pick a different one, since your current one "failed" to protect you).
Re-install programs (Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, WinAmp).
Reconnect the old disk-drive as a "slave" drive.
Copy all your files from the "old" disk to the "new" disk.
Virus-scan the "old" disk.

Eventually, "wipe" the old disk, and then, once a week, copy all your files from the "new" disk to the "old" disk, to create a good "second" copy of all your files, to protect you, should your "new" disk-drive suddenly fail.

Try hitting "F8" repeatedly right after you power on... you should see a Windows startup menu. Choose "Safe Mode With Networking"

If it boots up, try installing Malwarebytes again. If that works, Update it and run a full scan... it should clean up the bug you picked up....

Good Luck!

After the ThinkPoint screen loads push the command CTRL+ALT+DELETE quickly. This will bring you to task manager. Open the tab called Processes, find the process hotfix.exe and end it. The rogue program should be gone now. Next, you need to bring your Desktop and taskbar back. While in task manager go to File and select "Run new task". Type explorer.exe in the open box. This will bring back Windows explorer. More detailed instructions are given below. At this point you should be able to download anti-malware software which will remove ThinkPoint.

How do i get rid of think point?

1. Restart your computer. Once the ThinkPoint window comes press Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Shift+Escape. You should now see the Windows Task Manager screen. Click on the Processes tab. Then click and highlight hotfix.exe and click End Task. If it asks you "Are you sure you want to terminate the process?" click yes. This will close the ThinkPoint program.
2. While in Windows Task Manager, click the File -> "New Task (Run...)" button on the bottom right. Type inexplorer.exe and click OK. Your desktop and icons should start up as normal.
3. Download malware removal tool and scan the computer. You can use Malwarebytes antimalware, superantispyware or spyware doctor.
