Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

This is a general remedy for most Whirlpool made front-load machines, such as Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, Amana etc. Keep in mind some Kenmore are made by LG, Samsung, Frigidaire among others.
The "Sd" or "F2" is the same as F21 on most Whirlpool washer's and indicates the machine has detected too much soap or a obstruction in the drain process.

Chances are the pump itself is being obstructed by debris or some other foreign object as opposed to being faulty, although the faulty pump can`t be ruled out...yet.

**This is also the reason for the "suds" message if applicable**

Here`s how to check it and clean it...

Though it being full of water may make it messy. A wet-dry shop vac is handy in this situation.

If it is in a position that allows you too lean it back against something strong or a second set of hands it will help if tilted back almost all the way.

Careful not to hurt the machine or yourself, and undo the fill hoses and drain hose.

**Turn off the breaker at the service panel or unplug the washer from the wall socket...safety first**

1) locate the screws in front at the very bottom of the panel below the door and pull the panel down and forward until it is off. They will be either 1/4" hex head or #20 torx head screws.

2) You will immediately see the drain pump in front of you with a large removable filter. ( **see image below...this is were a wet-dry shop vac and towels come in handy, also the use of the removed panel as a catch pan is beneficial...but you may still get wet )
machine will not pump out water and showing F2 on - b3f3b21.jpg
3) Turn it counter-clockwise should allow you to remove it and inspect it and clean it out. Make a good thorough inspection inside the pump as well not just the removable filter.

4) Re-insert the filter and before placing the panel back run a test rinse/drain cycle to inspect for leaks and to verify the unit drains and spins now.

( If the problem still exist`s the Sd or "F2" or "F21" will re-appear. If so you`ll need to check the hose/rubber bellows from pump to tub...back-flow ball...for other obstructions ).

5) If all appears OK after your efforts, well your efforts paid off...pat yourself on the back. You just saved yourself potentially a couple hundred bucks !

Now You should be good to go. Re-attach the lower panel and you`re back in business.

**NOTE: if this still fails to remedy the Sd, F2, F21 or if it returns immediately during the next drain you may require a pump unfortunately...part # 280187 available at "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" etc.

**This however can also be caused by the back-flow ball inside the bellows which connects the tub to the pump. There is a large clamp which secures it to the tub, but if you remove it to clean out all the dirt built up inside, make sure you get it good and secure when putting it back.**

question? i want to try this before calling in the repairman, but im not sure why i have to detach the fill and drain hoses or tilt the machine back? the dryer is stacked on top so i wont be able to do that step, but based on what im looking at, it seems that if i turn off the power at the breaker and dont turn on the water i should be able to check the filter at least right? or am i missing something?

    Hi,

Absolutely, you really don't need to disconnect the water or anyrhing, it's just a precaution for those who are tipping the washer back or forward. Fact is I never disconnect it, I'm just trying to cover all the possible problems which could arise for do-it-yourselfers.

Let me know how you do.

Kenmore elite h3 front load washer is not working error code f2 flashes

Hello,

The F2 error code mean that the washer didn't drain the water within the normal time it takes to drain, usually the reson the washer hasn't drained properly is because the filter screen on the drain pump is clogged with debris. this tip i have written will show ya how to clean the filter on the pump.

Whirlpool Sport............while running a machine got struck and automatically showing as F2........wat dats mean??????and how to solve the problem???somebody kindly help me............

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. F2 error means Long Drain. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, the water valves are turned off and "F2" is flashed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
  • If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump.

Please rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Kenmore Elite Oasis HE washer error code F2

The error code must be cleared first to make the machine back into operation. You have to press the PAUSE/CANCEL button twice to clear the error on the display.

The only filter the machine has is the one you removed to clean the pump. When the error is cleared, you can check the pump whether it is operating properly or not by running the diagnostic test.

Diagnostic Test Mode Procedure

  1. Close the door.
  2. Select the DRAIN/SPIN.
  3. Select NO SPIN by pressing the SPIN SELECT button.
  4. Press RINSE/HOLD or PREWASH OPTION button four times within five seconds.
  5. "C:00" will show on the display indicating that the door is locked and the diagnostic test starts.
  6. Press the button you pressed in step 4 above two times. "C:01" will show on the display and the machine starts to fill.
  7. Press PAUSE/CANCEL button two times when there's enough water inside the tub to stop the test.
  8. Observe the water level falls as the pump starts draining the water. Replace the pump if the water inside the tub does not drain. You have removed and cleaned the pump so you can easily replace it too.
Please inform me about the result of the diagnostic test and if you still need any assistance regarding this problem.

What is the F 2 error and how do you fix it? the fan or dryer keeps running.

Hello there:
The dreaded f2 error is a high water level fault that is due to the drainage system either being clogged up in the piping system or the pump screen is clogged or there is a obstruction in the pump itself or the pump has failed .
So what you will need to do is to first make sure that all of the filters or screens are cleaned refer to your owners manual for the location and then inspect the entire drainage system going to the pump and from the pump to the water outlet from the machine this could also involve removing the pump itself and inspecting ok
Hopefully this is very helpful for you
Best regards michael

Whirlpool Duet HT GWH9300P Suds then F2

This means that the drain time has exceeded 8 minutes and the water valves have turned off. After 4 minutes the suds error is displayed then 4 minutes later the F2 error.
Potential causes
1.Check drain hose for kinks or cloggs
2.Check electrical connection at the pump and make sure the pump runs.
3.Check inside of pump for foreign objects
4.If none of the above fixes the machine replace the pump.

there is water in the pan below the unit. You will need to take apart the lower section of the dishwasher behind the toe kick and suck out the water, or just wait for it to evaporate (few days) Good Luck!
