Question about Mitsubishi Televison & Video
You do have a slight problem indeed.... well if you don't have a remote for your exact model it's nearly impossible to perform all the functions on the TV. Especially closed caption, that can ONLY be set/unset via the remote.
Now you can obtain "Universal remotes" BUT you must be very careful that they do actually, specifically state, that your make and model is supported, then it's OK anything else and you are wasting your time. See web link below.
The low volume may indeed be able to be restored via the remote, usually though the Volume, should be able to be controlled fully via the buttons on the actual set. ALL sets have a series of buttons that should allow one control over, the Channels, the Volume, the Menu, On/Off, and Enter/OK. Using these should enable you to at least have rudimentary control over your set.
However with the age of your set, it maybe the Audio Output Amplifier that is failing? If when you obtain a universal remote it cannot change the volume, then you will need to get the set looked at by a professional, but please remember that costings can be high, and with a set of this age it may be better, putting any monies that would have been spent on repair, towards a new set with a warranty? As if it is this component, then you may expect other failures too.. again, due to the age.
FYI below is a link for your service manual.
