Problem after problem, should I format m hard drive?

I've had my laptop for about a year and a half. It did wonderful at 1st but now its a big pain in the ****! the biggest problem I had was my desktop begin to blink, & I was able to fix that ( I can assume it was a virus bc by best friend had d same problem and she paid Geek Squad $200 to remove 2k viruses but then they removed the anitvirus software from her laptop so she had to take it back anyways) now that that has stopped I'm having other problems, like I cant access volume control in the toolbar or any of my quick launch, no spider solitaire, or paint. & I had a problem with my dvd player & burner as well as it takes oh about ten minutes to start up!! It's so aggrivating. I really dont want to format my hard drive bc I would lose all of my software. But it seems as though that would be the easiest thing to do.
**** If anyone had any input or suggestions these are some of the things I am Looking for

1. If I have to format my hard drive is there a way to back up my software?
2. Is it worth downloading whatever drivers I need?
3. Is it possible that I still have a virus on my laptop?
4. Is the best solution formatting my hard drive?

The best solution is to format it. in that way all viruses will be gone.
if you can find all your software on the internet
and you can find the keys to the software you can format your pc.

Max hard drive size for Toshiba Satellite 2430-S255

Unless you are running Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 and your drive format is FAT16/32 and not NTFS, there should not be any problem with a high capacity drive. Don't make the HDD size too big: it may be costly. If you have money to burn get two drives, one internal system disk, and the other an external storage/ backup drive.

You have to format your hard disc.
Place your purchased verion of Win7 into the DVD drive. Power up the laptop and boot from the DVD.
In the menu, select "Install fresh System" and let it format the drive.
That will sort out your problem.

Cant format hard drive

The drive itself may have died. But, try this... with it installed on your pc, right click on my computer, then left click on manage.

When the computer management screen appears, highlight drive management on the left side of the window. Your drives will now show up on the right. Delete the partition and recreate it (by right clicking on the drive) and then try to do another format.

Hope this helps

Ze4325us laptop...hard drive upgrade.....

I know the original question is over a year old, but here it goes for those just tuning in. Your HP ze4325us can only recognize a hard drive that is under 137.4GB. If you try to install a hard disk larger than 137.4, your computer will start to fail over time. I would recommend a 120GB hard drive, ata-100 / ide / eide, and spinning up around 5400 or 7200 rps. It would make your task easier. If you want to go bigger, use the hard drive manufacturers disk utillities programs (check manufacturer website) to partition and format before installation. So, if you were to puchase a 160GB drive, you could partition it at 137.4GB and 22.6GB. My advice, make it easy and just find a 120GB drive. Less hassles!

Acer laptop how to get the battery to last long?

Batteries last about a year depending on if you let it fully discharge before recharge the very 1st time you use it.
the real average is to expect about 6 months usage before it degrades. by one year you'll be lucky if it gives you 30min charge.

If I may ask a dumb question, was the new drive formatted prior to running the test? A unformatted drive will fail.
