Question about HP Computers & Internet

Sorry to bother again, but we are still having an issue (freezing at boot up). We tried booting up, hit F10 after logo and high lighted (safemode with command prompt.) As soon as we hit enter ... the screen goes blank, but the harddrive light stays on as if? Am I supposed to wait, if so, how long? If I boot up and hit F8 and chose safemode ... it freezes on the third file loading (Which is, HKCOM.DLL) Any ideas? Thank you, louiejr1963

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press delete to enter setup
Press and hold delete during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart then
once you have your computer running try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to fix any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive then you might test all leads that are attached from your motherboard to your hard drive or just replace them there probably old and faulty
hope this helps

Try running the restore software that is built into the computer on the protected partition; this is usually available by pushing the "F10" key upon boot up, that is, as soon as you see the dell logo on the screen, push the "F10" key. You could also try to boot the computer into "SafeMode" by pushing the "F8" key at boot up. Safemode will only offer a limited repair option but it will allow you access to diagnostic and repair options in windows.

It could possibly mean a faulty hard drive. But before we conclude, try to boot to safemode through advanced boot options. How to get there? tap on F8 as soon as your computer turns on. If you get the advanced boot option, then good. Try to choose the option that says Last known good configuration first. If it does not work, try it again but this time choose safemode. If all else fails then you might need to do a full re-installation of the operating system. If still trying to do a re-installation does not detect the hard drive, then you will need to have it replaced.

When I try to turn my netbook on, it freezes at the first screen where it has the HP logo in the center. And it says "F9 change reboot order. Or F10. Something else. I don't remember the F10 part....

You are trying to boot from a non bootable device. Start up your netbook and change the boot order to Hard Drive or Drice C, then re boot. F10 will store the settings.
Hope that helps

My acer netbook starts and you can see the screen works but couple seconds later it just turns black. Can anyone tell me why its doing that?

It appears that Operating system is failing to load. Try the steps below:

1. Turn Off the computer
2. As soon as you power button to turn ON the computer keep on tapping the F8 key, it will boot to Advance boot menu,
3. Select Safemode with the help of Down arrow keys and hit Enter
4. If the computer is booting to Safemode then there is no hardware failure, you can try full system restore.

To do a full system restore, please follow the below mentioned steps:
1. Turn Off the computer
2. As soon as you hit the power button keep on holding the Alt key and keep on tapping the F10 key ie Alt+F10
3. It will boot to Acer Recovery Console
4. Select Full System restore and follow the on screen instruction

NOTE: This is erase everything from the computer including any data; pictures or music

Thanks and regards,

Hi, My daughter has an HP XT963 desk top pc running Win px pro. Her pc freezes up at start up. We tried safe mode and after loading 3 or 4 files, it freezes at (hdcom.dll?) Is there a way to recover...

If you restore the computer you will lose the files. What you can do however is try to repair the corrupted files by following these steps:
reboot your computer and hit f10 at the logo
you will then see the advance troubleshooting menu with multiple options
arrow down and choose safemode with command prompt and hit enter
it will go through a series of files and then take you to something that looks similar to this C:/
at the C:/ type the following
chkdsk /f and hit enter
This process will scan your drive for errors and attempt to fix them automatically, it will take quite a while for the full scan to run so just be patient. It could take up to 2 hours or so. Once it completes the scan it will give you a log of sorts of the files that it repaired and such. You can then type exit and your system will reboot. If all goes well and the needed files were repaired you should be able to boot up into Windows with no problems. If you complete this process and are still having issues please let me know and I will assist further. Please leave feedback as well if you found this helpful at all. Thank you so much and good luck!

Computer freezes when I sign onto my accont

To resolve this issue, shutdown the computer and Restart it, as soon as it restarts keep on tapping F8 key, now select, "Last Good Known Configuration" and hit "Enter" key. It should take care of the issue. If not, then boot the computer to "Safemode", to do so, restart the computer and as soon as it restarts keep on tapping F8 key, now select "Safemode" from the Advance boot menu. If it is booting to Safemode, then perform a system restore to previous date. If nothing happens, then you have to perfomr a full system restore. You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

Thanks and Regards,

Try booting to safemode. and delete it from there.

To boot to safemode, restart your computer and tap F8 once your computer starts booting up again. on windows advanced options menu select safe mode then hit enter. hit enter again if it asks you for the operating system.

If you still can't delete the file try to download MoveonBoot here.

Just install the program. once it's installed right click on the file you wish to delete and select the option to delete on next boot.
