I have just read it on the other forum..try this one Error Code 5020: Scanner lock switch locked. [5020] Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on. Turn the machine off, unlock the scanner lock switch, then turn the machine on again. Hope it helps.
Issue: ERROR LCD: Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Solution: Unlock the scanner lock switch
The scanner must be unlocked before turning the unit on.
Turn off the power.
Lift the document cover.
The scanner lock switch is on the left hand side of the underside of the document cover.
Slide the scanner lock switch to the release mark (an open padlock icon).
Lock the switch before transporting.
Close the document cover.
Turn the machine on.
If machine still is not working repeat the power off / on cycle waiting 5 seconds in between.
There is a safety lock on the scanner that may be in the locked
position. Turn the unit off and locate the green lock lever/switch
under the scanner where the paper comes out. It will be labeled with a
icon (picture) of a lock (unlocked and locked). Move it to the unlocked
and locked position multiple times, ending up in the unlocked position.
It may be stuck so moving it back and forth may release it. Turn it
back on and try it.
I got the error code 5010 today (scanner lock switch). I called Canon. The printer's electrical circuitry (brain) needs to be refreshed. This is similar to wireless routers and other devices.
They directed me as follows:
1. power OFF the printer
2. Unplug the printer's power cord from the electrical source.
3. Wait AT LEAST 1 minute - no less than 1 minute.
4. After 1 minute, plug-in the printer to the electrical source. Turn on the printer - wait for it to warm up as usual and it should be ok.
Mine worked perfectly after the above steps. - Hope this helps.
I had the same problem and the solution is this: There is a red lever switch by the power chord on the scanner/printer. Above this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "locked" position and at the bottom this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "opened (unlock)" position. The lever on the red switch should point to the "opened" lock symbol (unlock). It the switch lever is pointing to the "locked" position of the lock symbol, flip it to the "opened" position and recycle power on the scanner by removing the power chord for a 30 seconds. If the lever is pointing to the "unlock" lock symbol, flip it to the "locked" position and then back to the "unlocked" position and recycle power. Good luck!
This may be very simple. Turn the unit off and lift up the top. On the forward side of the unit you will find a little 'slider switch'. This is the scanner unlock - toggle the switch back and forth several times and leave in the unlock position. Turn on the printer and all will be well.
you can always try to install the printer on a friend's pc as a test of the printer...do you have the install cd? if not try canon's site to download it.
