Question about Uniden Cordless Phone

2 Answers

I have just replaced a battery pack fror my TCK 800 series phone (one of four phones in my set-up), and it will not charge in its base. I've tried the other phones, and they charge in this base with- out a problem. Is there something about the new battery pack that could cause the phone to not make good contact with its charger? It clicks very nicely when it is installed and reinstalled.

The phone and battery in question does not charge in the other bases in my system. These bases work with their usual phones. Also, the other phones charge in the base in question. What doesn't work is this phone with its new battery (the second new one I've tried) in any of the bases.

When I switch the new battery to any of the other phones, they will not work in the subject phones charger. They will work in this charger with their own batteries. When I switch the new battery to these phones, the charger will not work. The new battery is now low but when it was put in the subject phone, I sat in the charger overnight, but it dod not work the next day. This will be the second battery I've gone through trying to make the subject phone work. Since the charger works with the

other phones and the phone is not working with any of the other batteries in its own charger (which worked with the other phones), does this mean that the phone instrument itself is faullty, and if so,

    is it worth repairing?

I have found out from one of the Geek Squad people at Best Buy that they sold me the wrong battery pack

for my Uniden phone. The correct pack has a nickel compound vs. the mercury compound that was sold to me. The problem is that they no longer carry the correct battery pack -- and Best Buy has the biggest

selection in the Chicago area. Does Uniden have them in its parts inventory for my 5.8 volt phone???

Hello, Earl.

You may have a faulty battery pack.

Test the new battery in one of the other phones. If you get the same result, the battery pack is faulty and you should return it for a replacement battery pack.

Hope this helps.

Ok try one of the batteries from one of the "Other" phones, and see if the fault "Follows" the battery or not. If it does, then i suspect you may have a dud battery, this indeed happens from time to time over the years i have had many many New bad batteries. So it is well worth checking. If the fault however doesn't follow the battery then you must have a problem with that phones charging system/base
You also said it doesn't charge in it's base, will it charge in another base? See the thing to do is try to isolate what is the actual faulty bit, having multiple items all the same is a definite plus, as you can swap out, with "Known good" bits.
Also make sure that any new batteries are charged up fully before using it in any way, usually it should be left for 12 hours, say overnite, to bring them up to spec.

How to activate a vtech phone

    • 1Remove the battery cover from the back of the phone. Most models have a door that slides downward to reveal the battery compartment.
    • 2 Install the battery by inserting the connector on the battery wires over the pins in the handset battery compartment. The connector will only go on one way.
    • 3 Insert the battery pack into the compartment and replace the battery cover.
    • 4 Charge the phone by sitting it in the charger for a minimum of 16 hours on the first charge.
    • 5 Place the fully-charged phone onto the cradle of the base unit and wait for the display to show "PRESS FIND HNDST 4 SEC ON BASE." If the message does not come up, lift the phone off the base and put it back in the cradle.
    • 6 Press and hold the "FIND HANDSET" button on the base unit for approximately four seconds. The display on the phone will change to "PLEASE WAIT," then "HANDSET X REGISTERED."
    • 7 Test the phone by making a call.

Batteries won't charge

There are a few reasons why a battery won't charge. Make sure that the contacts on the phone and the charging cradle are clean. (Unplug the base or charger.) A pencil eraser is good initial cleaner; electronic contact cleaner sprays are a second option. Remove the battery and check the contacts inside the handset and the battery as well. Next replace the battery pack. If you add a comment with your phone's model number, then I can try to find the correct battery. (Stores like Battery Mart may have a compatible battery.)

The final possible problem is that the charging system is bad. If your phone has multiple handsets, try a different charger. If the phone allows you to add handsets, try getting a new handset. The new handset will come with a new charger. (I've never seen the chargers sold without the handset but you could try Uniden customer service. If the base station is the only handset cradle, you'll probably need to replace the phone if a new battery and clean contacts don't work.

If your Uniden phone is under warranty, contact the company.

I hope this helps.

Telstra 7100a home phone

Hi, It sounds like the batteries of the handset could be the problem.
Try replacing the batteries with other new batteries. I recently purchased a good brand of battery (not rechargeable), but they were down in their voltage straight out of the package.
Make sure the batteries are AAA NiMH batteries, and that they are charged for at least 16 hours.
Also check that you have inserted them the correct way +ve/-ve.
When you have inserted them, place the phone on the base and the handset should show you it is charging.

Here are a few options; 1) your picture shows two bases, if that is the case, is it happening to both bases/phones, if not check terminals to make sure both are clean and connecting well. 2) if possibly exchange them, Uniden's are usually good phones, I've owned them before. 3) If you have one phone holding a charge and the other not, exchange the batteries and see if it's specific to the battery set. If so, you can purchase replacements at several stores. Hope that helps.

Base isflashing gren light, handset says not connected

I've had this happen before with an older Panasonic, and also a V-tech. On both the problem came and went, and was easily correctable by simply placing the handset on the base (not a remote charging base) for a few seconds. Over time it became a more frequent issue, and eventually both phones got to the state you are in now, where it seems that there is nothing that make it aquire a signal. You can try removing the battery from the handset, and replacing it. You may want to check the voltage of the battery with a multimeter while you have it out to see if one of the cells is dead.
The cells in the battery pack of your cordless phone each produce 1.5v, so the number of cells x 1.5 is the voltage you should read with your multimeter. If you have a 3 cell battery pack, and it is only putting out 3 volts, you have one dead cell. Often the highest voltage required by the device is the unregulated output of the pack. Because the device has no provision for stepping the power up from 3 to 4.5 volts, some of it's electronics will not function properly with a dead cell in the pack.
Handset battery packs are fairly standardized these days, so you should b able to find one to test your handset with without actually buying a replacement battery pack.

Brand New Phone won't charge

Apologies for asking the obvious, but have you removed the battery cover on the handset to ensure that the battery pack is connected? There should be two wires from the battery pack, black and red, which terminate in a plug. That plug must be securely fitted into the corresponding socket inside the handset.

If that is all OK, then I suggest you swap the battery pack from the working handset and see if that works in the one that will not charge. By doing this you should be able to determine if it is the battery at fault, or the handset.

Phone loses connection after few minutes

I looked up the battery specs for your phone. They are 3 X 200mah= 600mah battery packs. They should last 8 hrs talk time with the headsets. This style of battery pack in my experience only last about 1 1/2years and sometimes longer and "sometimes" shorter...much shorter. I bet you never had problems when you first got them. Basicly this "battery design arrangment" goes back many years before newer battery technlogy was developed. But designers still insist on using them even today. They are cheap to make. ****Time to replace them with new ones.**** Make sure you follow the mfgs charging instructions: "After battery installation, place the handsets in their base unit or charger and allow to charge for 16 hours before use. You can keep the battery charged by returning the handsets to their base unit or charger after each use. When the battery is fully depleted, a recharge takes about 12 hours. Average talk time on a fully charged battery is about eight hours depending on environmental conditions, standby time is approximately four days." Good luck

In Use LED flashing constantly

Your phone may have lost registration to the base. 1) Try disconnecting the power to the base and then re-connecting the power with the cordless phone in the base. Give it a few seconds, then see if it works. 2) Try removing the battery, wait 10 seconds, re-install the battery and set the phone in the charger.
