Question about Whirlpool MH7155XM Microwave Oven

1 Answer

We have a MH6110XEQ-1 850 Watt built in microwave (manufactured in 1998). I put something in, entered 1 minute, hit start and before the motor engaged everything went "off". Can you suggest a "fix" or is it DOA?

The magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.

If the magnetron has failed it is possible that it has taken out the mains fuse. Replace all faulty components with identical types and values!
Hope that helps.

What is the wattage

There are 2 different wattage's on a microwave oven.

1 The wattage a microwave oven uses from your wallsocket that is in a range from 1500 watt to 2500 watt. you can read this on the typeshield on the back of the oven.

2 The wattage the oven put in you food. ( that is also the wattage that a foodpackage or recepy mentions. it is normal in the range from 600 to 1200 watt. you have too lookup this in the manual or manufacturers website.

How do you use the kitchen timer and cook at the same time?

If you have the kitchen timer set for instance for 10 minutes and it is counting down, and then you want to reheat you coffee for 2 minutes. You would hit either time cook or reheat button and enter 2 minutes ten hit start. The microwave will heat your coffee and show the 2 minute countdown for that. When done it will revert back to what is left on the 10 minute kitchen timer without missing a beat on most microwaves.

Why has my Microwave stopped working? e130mh55gsa installed over stovetop. simple commands like cook for 1 minute, etc do not work anymore. manufactured January 2008. serial number 7g80305394. 12

Most commonly problem of Microwave Oven is the interlock switch in its door hinges. Since it is emitting microwave rays, it was built with such interlock switch to avoid exposure of human to said rays. So check first the continuity and functionality of said door switch.

My plate just cracked while microwaving popcorn

Make sure you don't put any dishes in the microwave with something like popcorn because they retain more heat and have nothing to transfer the heat too. If you mean the built in spinning plate that you set stuff on and you have an older model the fan might be broken. Something similar happened to my microwave as it is pretty old i just removed the panels and cleaned everything/blew it off with an air hose and it started working again. I'd check with the manufacturers also!

GE jvm1190 above the range microwave /convection (2001 model)

It sounds just like the magnetron is bad, overheating and opening the thermostat. This is how it would work if that were the case.

One other thing is to be sure that the cooling fan is running and that you feel air flow.

You should check the air filter and grille, as well as the outside vent for any blockage.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Will not heat.

Hi I've been out of the microwave repair business for a few years now, but the technology has remained virtually the same as far as I know. You obviously have some knowledge of them, as you know about the safety switches in the door. Microwave ovens are actually a very simple device, to test it, put a coffee cup of water inside, and set the unit on high for one minute. A second or two after you hit the start button, you should hear a fairly loud "bong" noise, and a hum that continues untill the time runs out. That noise is the magnetron starting up, and if that noise does not happen, then the magnetron or related circuitry is probably bad. NEVER open up the oven, as the magnetron may be charged, and must be discharged by a technician. If the sounds that I described are present, then the water should be boiling or close to it in one minute, if not, then something I've never seen has gone wrong. Assuming you had a year warranty on it, I know from experience that if you contact Goldstar customer service by phone, or letter, they will often extend their warranty a month or so to keep happy customers. Its worth a try. Hope this helps you out. P.S. Never operate a microwave without something inside (Non metalic)
