Cannot scan when using Picaso. Get message "unable

    I am using Windows XP. I have used the printer for 2 years and had no problems. Everything else works on the printer but not the scanner.

    Here is our first step in troubleshooting the issue of the scanner. Follow these steps to run the scan diagnostics on your printer/scanner. Let me know what the results are and we will go from there. This will give us a better idea on which direction to take in resolving the issue.

    Step one: Download the Scan Diagnostic Utility

    NOTE: The HP Scan Diagnostic Utility might not be available for all HP products, particularly older products. It is available for most products, however, and in most languages. This tool is available only for Windows operating systems.

    1. Click on the following link to download the utility

    2. Link to tool (right-click)File size
      HP Scan Diagnostic Utility 2.24M

    3. Make sure that your computer meets the system requirements, and then click Download .

    4. When the Security Warning dialog box opens, click Save . The Save As dialog box opens.

      Important: HP recommends that you save the download according to the following directions to make sure that you can easily access the tool again at a later time.

    5. Click Desktop in the drop-down menu, and then click Save . The Scan Diagnostic Utility downloads and saves to your desktop so that you can access it at any time.

    6. When the Download Complete dialog box opens, click Run on the Security Warning dialog box.

    7. When the tool finishes installing, click Finish . The Scan Diagnostic Utility opens automatically with a list of installed products.

      Tool didn't open automatically?

      On your computer desktop, double-click the Scan Diagnostic Utility (SDU) icon.

    Step two: Run the Scan Diagnostic Utility

    1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product, if it is not already on.

    2. From the Scanner column in the Scan Diagnostic Utility, select your HP product.

      Product not in the list?

      If your product is not in the list, reinstall the HP product software.

    3. Click Diagnose . The Scan Diagnostic Utility diagnoses various scanning problems, and then displays a list of results. The results display either when the tool detects an error, or when the tool completes the diagnosis and there are no errors.

    Step three: Resolve diagnosed scanning problems

    1. In the Scan Diagnostic Utility results screen, look for items with a red X ( ) next to them. Items with green check marks ( ) are fine.

      • If you see one or more red X ( ), continue with these steps.

      • If you see only green check marks ( ), the tool did not find any problems.

      • If you see any yellow exclamation points ( ), treat this as a warning. The suggested fix is optional.

    2. Click the item with the red X ( ) to select it, and then click Fix . The Scan Diagnostic Utility automatically fixes the diagnosed issues, if possible, and then displays results on the screen. Repeat this step for all items marked with a red X ().

      Can't click the Fix button? If the fix button is unavailable (grayed out), follow these guidelines:

      • Look at the instructions in the Scan Diagnostic Utility. There should be instructions on what to do next.

      • Examine the Power button ( ) on your product. Make sure that the product is on, and that the power light is solid, not blinking.

      • Make sure that the USB cable connects securely to your computer and to the product. The USB icon ( ) on the USB cable generally faces up when the cable connects to the computer correctly.

        If the Fix button is still unavailable, you must reinstall the HP software.

    3. When you finish fixing all the diagnosed problems, a pop-up window opens. Click Test Scan . The product performs a test scan, which might take several minutes.

      • If the test scan is successful , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. You resolved the issue.

      • If the test scan is not successful , click HP Update or Help in the Scan Diagnostic Utility for more troubleshooting options.

Did you ever get a resolution to your problem? I have exactly the same problem with same error message - and very loud clicking noises coming from the scanner. Powering it down - allowing it to "cool" for 5 minutes will get probably 1 or 2 documents through the scanner before the error message reappears. But this is only a workaround rather than a solution.

Ok, for the printing part you should check the following:
-connection between printer and computer
-make sure the machine is not in power save mode
-make sure machine is online; click start, printers, choose printer and make sure 'Use Printer Offline' is unchecked
-reinstall the drivers from here:

Now regarding the scan error, seems to be a mechanical error. Remove and objects that might stop the scanning to proceed. Also, check the manual for Troubleshooting on the link above.

Scanner will not operate when diamond is pushed

It takes almost a minute, but it needs to be connected to a computer with scanning software installed. After you push the diamond the software in your computer starts and you select how to scan and save and where to send the picture after scanning. I just use Picaso that came with Windows Vista. You need to go to control panel/scanners, and make sure your scanner is seen.

Check the following steps:

Connect the printer directly to the wall outlet and

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the connection port.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only.
4. Repeat steps 2-4 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the connection port from the all-in-one to your computer.

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord

Try to check the result.
