I have a kohler tub with 6 jets, it is a corner tub and is about 14 years old. I have not used it in a couple of years and it worked the last time used very weel. I have accidently hit the push button several times and it has worked, but when I went to use it last I could push the button all the way in and it wouldnt start the jets. I am worried that it is the pump, but would like to check everything else out first because they are so expensive. I cant imagine the pump is bad if it worked the last time used. Can you please help me troubleshoot other possible problems.

How can I check for power to the pump, when the switch to activate the pump does not turn it on. The pump is plugged in so I know it is connected to a power source, but how do I know if it is truly the pump that is bad versus the switch that turns on the pump. Can I test the pump any other way to see if it works other than that switch. When I push the button I hear a tick, but nothing else. Maybe give me ways to trouble shoot if it is the pump versus switch or tubing etc.

i sent you a message hours ago and have not heard back. I was just wondering how I know it it the pump that is bad and not the switch? Can I check the pump without having to push the switch to activate it. The pump is plugged in and makes a light click when the button is hit, but that is it. Can you tell me other ways to check the switch to see if it is that as well as the pump. How can I tell if the pump works or not if I have to hit the button to get it to work? I hope you know what I am asking for. I just would like all ways to trouble shoot to ensure I am replacing the right part.

I have a kohler jetted tub, it is a corner tub and has 6 jets and is about 14 years old. It has not been used in probably 2 years, but would accidently hit the button activating the pump every once in a while and it still worked. When I went to use it finally the jets would not turn on, I push the button and nothing. We have made sure the pump is plugged in and when you push the button to turn it on you can hear a click, but that is it. I asked someone else on here, but they have not responded back for over 4 hours. I would just like to know how I can trouble shoot to make sure what is wrong. How can I check power to the pump without using that button just to make sure it works. Otherwise, how can I check the switch. I really dont think it is the pump when it has not been used, I feel more like it would be the switch????? Pumps are so expensive and hard to get to without tearing out the whole tub, so do not want to purchase a new one if that is not what is wrong. PLEASE HELP......

Hi,

Before replacing the pump check for power at the pump... if you have power and the pump is not running then the pump motor is bad....

If not then check why the switch is not working.... usually they are an air switch.... a hole in the hose can cause the switch not to activate....

or the switch it's self has gone bad... that is fairly common also....

You will find your problem in one of these areas....

    Hi,

I actually am out on a short weekend getaway with my wife so she is getting first priority this weekend...

To checkout the pump and the switch you will need to use a voltage meter that allows you to check for voltage at different points likeat the motor when it should be on and at either side of the switch when it should be activated...

This is not hard for an experienced electrical troubleshooter to do, but will be difficult if you are not used to doing this....

so... if you are not sure about this, find a friend or hire someone that is.... it should not take long to isolate the problem...

The problem you are experiencing tells me that the air switch in the motor most likely the problem.
This is a latching air switch that operates when the button on the side of the tub is pushed.
The replacement TBS-339 air switch is around $21

Jet streams whirpool not working after heavy lightining storm. lights in the tub do work, but do not turn off Unit about 6 years old model TO3C 1348

you have been hit by power surge. most likely the problem is in the control box that controls the pump. Need to call local plumber or service company to take a look at the system.
Verify that all circuit breakers are on and stay on after being reset before calling service tech.

This is sounding like a relay not working on the circuit board inside the control box. You will want to have a Kohler service center send someone out to have it checked. You most likely need a new control box.

Particles coming out of the jets.

This is caused by bacteria build up inside the pipes of the tub. You should use a product like System Flush, Jet Fresh, Jet Clean, Whirlout or similar to clean the tubing.
You can prevent that just as easy by using the tub 4 + times a week.

no not really the only way to fix it right is to open up the walls. this is a common problem with these units, the best thing you can do is contact the manufacture who made it and ask them what to do.

How to identify make and model of old whirlpool tub?

This is a problem common to all whirlpool/air jet style tubs. The pumps become air locked due to the water evaporating from lack of use. All tubs need, and have, SOME means of priming the pump, this is most likely what the problem was, originally, for you. This time in particular you found it to be electrical in nature but for future reference, for you and all who have these style of tubs, I am putting this out there. Some where on the tub, usually along the top edge of the tub is a vent knob that controls the amount of air that the pump is allowed to mix with the water for the jets, usually by closing this valve all the way (tub needs to be full of water of course) and running the pump for a minute or 2, you should be able to get the pump pumping water again, if not you may need to do something else with your particular set-up to get it purged of air, the pumps in jacuzzi tubs are designed to pump water, not air, so if the motor is running but you get no jet action, your most likely air locked and need to prime pump/purge air.
