    Same problem

  • mkern002 Dec 28, 2008

Same problem but intermittent. Just today, both the touchscreen and the remote quit so I can't operate. Both were working fine until I got a message "37 mph speed warning ahead" ( or something to that effect ) I presume from XM Navtraffic which I have activated. Now the unit is not operable and, incidentally, there was not speed issue despite multiple such messages. On the road now and forgot my AC power cord to can't download an update. Will need to wait until home in about a week or so. Will email Garmin support.

My screen is shifted along the bottom, so I have to press to the left of the target area. Calibration fails every time. Of course I cannot go left of the 'back' area so the unit is useless... without a remote, which works fine. Georgia Power bought a ton of these and all fail within 2 years...

My 2730 would not calibrate. I saw this on a forum and it worked like a charm.

1) Fill a bowl or sink with warm water and a small amount of neutral soap. AJAX worked for me!!!!
2) Turn the SP2xxx screen down towards the water and immerse the front of the unit in the water.
3) Using a *soft* toothbrush, *gently* clean around the frame edges of the screen. With care, the soft bristles should dislodge any foreign object that may have become lodged between the screen and the unit case.
4) Rinse the front of the unit under running water.
5) Gently dry the outside of the unit with a soft towel or cloth.
6) If desired, leave the unit in a warm airing cupboard overnight to completely dry out.

Hook up the unit and try it out! All reports I've read elsewhere reported that the touch screen worked again after this process. If it fails, you were going to send it back to Garmin anyway so you haven't lost anything by trying it. This worked and I plugged it in right after with hair drying on cool for a couple minutes.

What is wrong with the screen when it says to Touch Dot?

You can just use a plastic pen or anything with a nib to press it, instead of using your finger. After pressing 5 to 6 times it should work

The touch screen doesn't work with my finger tip, only when my nail touchs screen, also did the screen calibration, did not not help

It may be a resistive screen rather than a capacitive screen which is not as sesitive to touch. You may need to use a stylus as it may need slight pressure vs just touch if it is a resistive screen.

Unable to unlock Nuvi 780 screen. The slideing button on the top left dosen't work, it lost the grip and just move on either direction with out any action. Please help

Try to remove the battery and re insert it back in to see if it will work. Or hold down the power on/off for about 15 seconds, that should do the job.

If that does not do it, then you have to calibrate the screen. To calibrate the screen, follow the steps below:
  1. Turn off your nuvi,
  2. Press your finger on the upper left corner of the touch screen,
  3. While holding your finger on the touch screen, turn on the nuvi.
  4. Continue to hold your finger on the screen for about 30 seconds until the calibration screen appears(white screen with touch dot),
  5. Then follow the on screen instructions.
That should do the job for you. hope this helps.

If the touch screen is not working properly, calibrate the touch screen.

Turn Nuvi off and then back on.

Slide power key to the right (lock). Hold your finger on the screen for about 30 seconds until the calibration screen appears.

Follow the directions on screen instructions

Touch screen wont work

You didn't indicate the model - so I copied a reply I gave for someone with the same problem on a nuvi 760 below. The last step - a call to Garmin Support - will solve the problem for any Garmin model.

Your GPS might need a trip back to the factory if the screen has stopped responding to touch. But before doing that, you might want to try the screen calibration routine below:

1) Shut the 760 off.

2) Put your finger anywhere on the screen and hold it there while performing the following steps.

3) Turn the 760 back on with the slider switch and quickly slide it to the lock position.

4) Keep holding that finger on the screen for about 20 seconds or so - then follow the calibration instructions on the screen. You might want to use a stylus or other narrow, blunt object instead of your finger to get pinpoint accuracy.

If this fails to solve the problem, contact Garmin Support directly below:

Cannot scroll phonebook entries in my TomTom GO 930 using the remote control unit. It used to work, but doesn't now. Suddenly just stopped responding to remote controller. Scrolling of other lists (eg....

Apparently tom tom have stopped supporting this feature which is why the remote will not activate the scrolling. Absurd if you as me I have a 307 and it's a damn deep windscreen I used the remote to handle my calls! Now I can't make calls I can do a redial and accept calls.

You can manually scroll using your finger. I think the Dutch have gone crazy. Best thing to do is log this with technical and log it as a complaint!!
