Question about Kenmore Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have the Kenmore ultra wash 665 that when starting it fills up with water and then starts up for about 5 seconds and then goes off. I noticed yesterday that the water hadn't drained completly and was in the drying cycle. Any ideas?

I tryed quick rinse the bottom filled up, light over quick rinse was on, rinseing light was on the dishwasher started up for 5 seconds and stoped for 30 seconds and started back up for 5 seconds and back off by itself.

    any sugestions?

  • berniemcart Nov 13, 2010

I tried this and it will run for 5 sec. and shut off for 30 sec. and keep repeating.

  • berniemcart Nov 14, 2010

I have already taken most of it apart. In the bottom where the 2 balls are is this little hole suposed to be open? It is stoped up and I just realized it has been leaking water out from this same area and leaking down on the motor. Now I have another problem.

  • berniemcart Nov 14, 2010

The drain plate has a *** in the bottom, One of the balls was under this ***. Directly under it apears to be a drain hole that is stoped up? Aparently this is where the water may be leaking from.

Thanks for your help. I decided that it was leaking water to go ahead and purchase a new one. Thanks for your help. You seem very knoledgeable.

Is it please possible to provide the complete model number. 665.xxxxxxx

That helps better understand the dishwasher configuration to get a more accurate view of the likely problem.

if you are able to operte dishwasher then try quick rinse program and see if it completes. But first empty water from base of dishwasher with a small container.

We will work through this in a few stages. Please post a comment to confirm what happens with quick rinse. Note down any lights flashing etc.

The user manual is available at this site. also location of parts is available at this site. We may need to refer to these later.

Sorry, could not get back to your response earlier.

Thanks for the feedback on rinse cycle.

The problem is coming in the from the wash/ drain pump system. Your dishwasher uses a combined pump for wash and drain. There is some obstruction in the pump impeller which is causing it to behave this way. If you see the diagram in my previous posting, item 17 is the whole pump/ motor assembly. There is a series of impellers which act as a pump to wash or drain depending on the direction of the motor. The balls (5 and 7) act as valves to control the direction in which the water moves. An obstruction can confuse the dishwasher controller.

You could open the whole assembly and find out the problem or buy the whole part from this site and replace it. In case you want to open up the whole assembly you will need to order the replacement kit to make sure you have the necessary washers etc to put it back together.

Take photographs at each stage to make sure you have the sequence right when you put it back.

One more thing, before you do anything else check if the dishwasher can be reset by pressing folliwng keys in sequence within 5-8 secs.

Pots and Pans/ no heat dry/ pots and pans/ no heat dry.

Sometimes the controller can be caught in the wrong cycle.

I am slightly unsure of what you meant by ..

"It is stoped up and I just realized it has been .,." Usually the balls should be aligned to a hole leading to a duct of some sorts. One set is for wash arms - it alternates water supply to the top and bottom washer arms. That way there is more pressure when water gets to the arm. The other one is for the drain circuit. It blocks the drain water from coming back in when the wash water is circulating.

So if the balls are blocked by some rubbish, then it will not be giving the correct sequence.

Also please clarify the exact source of the leak. Is water coming out from one of the hose clamps. I was assuming you would have removed the dishwasher inlet and drain hoses from the kitchen plumbing. So where is the water coming from?

  • Sam Nov 14, 2010

I am sorry but I do not quite understand what "stoped up" means.

Was there any rubbish you were able to find in the impeller and the holes?

Do you still need any help from me in putting in back together?

My Kenmore ultra bake stove model 665 75022101 now has a " Loc" code on the screen. The gas range doesn't work. How do I clear this?

Notice the 2 buttons at the top right, "top" and "oven". If the top burners won't initiate, press and hold for at least 5 seconds the "top" button to unlock it. If the oven won't work, press and hold the "oven" button for at least 5 seconds to unlock it. I hope this helps you!

Kenmore Dishwasher does not wash

Stew, Im not really sure what model you have 665, 587, 363 or what. If it's a 665, it sounds like the wash motor is not getting power. Remove the toe panel and look at the start capacitor. See if one of the wires came off during the reinstallation. Should be on the left side of the wash motor. If one of the wires is off, wash motor won't run. If that's ok, check the main harness to the motor. Catriver

Start flashes and will not begin wash cycle

My dishwasher Model is 665 15891790 and the serie #FG3907905. After programing my dishwasher and pressing the start button, it fills with water, but when it is due to start the sensing light comes on. I have notice that the ring under the watering arm on the bottom of the machine seams to be cracked. Could that be the problem for the machine not starting its' cycle. Thank you.
